I have a judgement and the amount in the court files are $2 less than the amount reporting on the CRA's. Is this enough to raise hell for validation? I asked a lawyer on another board and he said it's OK for them to round off figures. The judgement was filed in 1987 and renewed in 1997. I got a demand letter the other day for a figure a few thousand $ larger then the original figure becasue of interest. Is this an angle to use that the info is not accurate? Also the letter states if I don't pay they will report it to the CRA as a collection account. It's already on my CRA. Must be a new collector. Does renewing the judgement start a new 10 year clock for reporting to the CRA? Thanks for the help. Already got 4 charge offs deleted from EQ.
7 years has EXPIRED...(can't report) Why are they trying to collect??? (SOL isn't 10 years in your state is it...and they can "renew"?)
George, I'm in CA and the SOL is 10 years and they can renew. No one seems to know how many times they can renew. I've even had lawyers look up the law and they couldn't find it.
I don't remember the exact number, but a judgement in CA can be renewed for a total of about 40 years, your adult working life. I think it is 5 times, at 7 years a pop, or something close to that. I just remember that the total would put a 30 something person into their 70's before they could be free of the judgement.
