I have successfully raised my credit into the high 700's over the last year. Last year I was denied American Express and am interested in trying again..... Since my score has gone up by a lot. I pay off the balance in full every month and never carry a balance.

Now my question is if I apply and get an additional card, would this be wise to add additional credit into my portfolio of cards??? I am not maxing out my cards by any means.. I use probably 5-10% of the cards limits. I guess I have heard that having too much available credit can be just as bad as having too little, because when the time comes (NEXT YEAR) to attempt to buy a home and get a mortgage, the lenders may be hesitant if there is too much available credit....

    OK so I currently have:

One Mastercard with an $8900 limit which I got last year after being denied the AMEX... Started with 5700 limit and have had it raised twice thus far in under a year.

One Mastercard with an 1250 limit (capital one) and it was given years back after college with a lower credit score, an introductory score and they refuse to raise limit.. I just keep it because it is the oldest card. Only charge my netflix on this card to keep them reporting my credit to the agencies.

One Student loan with 9k and have chosen to pay monthly payments

One Car Payment of about 188 a month

I think you can add the AMEX just fine. It doesn't look like your available credit is that high.
