Hey board - I am glad I have the Amex Card - it is as widely used in Australia as Visa/MC.

Yes, Dogman has been to Melbourne, southern Australia, Hayman Island - northern Australian coastal island, and now am sending this message from an internet cafe in Sydney. I return to fabulous SF in another couple of days.

The American dollar goes twice as far in Australia - so I have been living like a king - with all accommodations, rooms, everything HALF our prices.

Best to you all mates - I will snap a message soon.
    No worries....aaarrrffff! Dogman

Dog- Sounds like you're having a blast. Aus-land is beautiful. Did you get up to Cairns? How bad did the fires damage the blue mountains?

Hopefully you avoided the 'roo burgers!

Hi MJ - now I know what business to open - in this small internet convenience store - they charge $5.00
to log on then .05 per minute. And some of these people in here are standing around helping each other - at this cost.

The access and PCs probably only cost 10K to set up.. LOL!

Hayman island was very close to Cairns - but offshore. The big news was that some diver died from a jellyfish sting.

We all gotta go when its our time, Mate LOL!

    Dog-

    Best "I-Cafe" -- Betty Boop's in Amsterdam.

Combination "coffee shop" and internet cafe.

7 Guilders gets you an hour of T-1 access-- 2 Guilders for a beer or cup of coffee, and 10 Guilders for a nice hand-rolled fatty :)

    Enjoy your trip!

    Re: AMEX In Australia-Greetings Mates!

Hi mates - back here in good old USA timezone and winter.

Hey all - it really is the biggest travel bargain on earth - where you CAN drink the water LOL.

    I called AMEX in advance to let them know I would be using the Card in Australia, extensively - and the Rep was appreciative and noted my account;

I carried the Cap One MC but did not use it. I also contacted them in advance and they said they were glad I called to let them know the "out of country" bit.

I think the pre call is smart - given you are a looong way from home and contacts. Your only "CLOUT" in a foreign country is a credit card company.

The VISA theme in Australia is:

    aboriginal drumroll please......
    VISA.....ALL IT TAKES.

    Nice - I like it....good day mates.
Now I am off the down under kick...LOL

    arrrfff - dogman
