Is anyone who ever had an Amex card in the

    "internal" system @ AMEX?

How do you get off their blacklist with out re-paying

    an old debt??<<there must be a way>>

Had BK over Ten years a go, no way I am repaying

back 30k just to get an AMEX.

Their internal system must violate some law

with respect to privacy and or credit reporting, even

though they can't report it to External bureau,

they are, in effect acting as a credit bureau by

    maintaining such a databsae.

    No other creditor does this.

MANY CREDIT CARD COMPANIES HAVE A "BLACK LIST"...

They NEVER let you "BURN" them twice!!!!
    Perfectly legal.

Other creditors do in fact do it. I am on citibanks blacklist. They wont even pull a credit report when I apply. They just send me a denial based on past history with their company. I have tried to pay them off but they refuse to accept it and I stay on their blacklist.

You've breached the contract you've signed with them, caused them more than $30,000 of damage, and now you think you have a God-given right to borrow their money again?

You'll have to look elsewhere. Try Citi or USAA.

They are a private corporation. They can serve who they want and set their own standards, internally.
They are not the post office - so to speak....

30K - you might try Diners Club - which is actually easy to get if you have Citi - anything

Gee, how odd that they won't accept payment for a past due account. :-/...

I'd send a check in and see what happens. Then I'd wait a year and apply again. The credit dept. is 1-301-733-5501.

I got a Citi card in March even though I am on their blacklist (I paid my debt a few years ago) by asking for a re-evaluation from their credit dept. I applied again in late March, asked for another re-evaluation due to the blacklist, got denied again b/c the same balance was showing on two different cards (BT lag on credit reports), and then got approved in June when I faxed an updated credit report. They keep your record for 90 days.

Now, I'm at double my initial credit limit and have a brand new 3.9% BT APR for 9 months. :)

Citi has been very easy to work with in my own experience.

It's not against any law for any one or company to keep an internal record of people's transactions with them. If you lent someone money which they had promised to pay back to you, but then bolted - you'd put them on your personal "blacklist, too". So would I.

Second chances are great, but demanding them without even attempting to make a good faith effort to repay the debt is plain presumptuous and frankly immoral.

This is not true. Citibank does it. Associates does it. First Consumers National Bank does it.

Marci I settled an old balance from 1994 in 1998. I paid about 60cents on the dollar. In february of this year I wrote to citi through planet feedback offering to pay off the settled amount. I got an email back with a phone number to call. The person I talked to pulled my account by social security number and then told me that they would not accept payment as the account had been settled. Now when I apply they dont even pull my bureau they just send me a turn down based on prior history with them. My wife who was an authorized user on the old c/o recently got an aadvantage 9k and a universal 11k.

Thanks for all the info., actually it was not my intent

to "damage" AMEX or anyone else, I had multiple

accounts with AMEX and had to file<a7> due to a

severe problem with a commercial real estate

venture, I was facing 40 years of judgements or

    10 years with a 7, I chose the obvious.

I was always a fanatic about paying my bills, but

some things just can not be overcome.

The debts were legallly discharged and I certainly

don't feel bad for AMEX, they write it off their

taxes, so I doubt they were "damaged" too much.

The only reason I inquire about Amex now, is they

have some nice features, always did, however,

I have lived with out them for 10 + years and will

continue to do so, I have 5 Platinum Cards, Visas,

MC's and Discover's, among others and my credit

is now "flawless", srangely one of the cards I now

hold, is from a Discharged creditor, I owed them

about 10k, if they do keep internal records I guess

they want to recoup some money off this new

    account.

FYI, Discover was the only company that allowed me

to re-affirm my debt while in BK, I will always use

Discover the most, they helped me out tremendously

while AMEX wouldn't even discuss the matter, so

LOL Amex, you'll never recoup any money, in any

    way, shape or form.

Looks like AmEx and Discover parent Morgan-Stanley are in serious talks with both having a compelling motive for merger:
