AmEx blacklist - how does it work?

I had an optima that was charged off years ago. However, I was able to get a corporate card about 2 years ago. (chargeoff 4 years ago). Does that mean I am on the blacklist or not? Or is the corporate card not included?

I don't want to apply and get shot down and get unnecessary inquiries..

Also - what do they look for for qualifying for the blue card?

Ender, I don't about Amex, but was curious as to what happened with your lawsuits. How did they work out for you?

    Ender,

I had a chargeoff in the early 90's and was able to get Amex blue last year. I am not quite sure how the blacklist works.

    Thanks for the responses guys..

LKH - I won my lawsuit against Experian in COURT and also received monetary award.. not much, but getting ALL deletions is what I was looking for. Once I am done with the other 2 CRA's, I will post again. For now, I have the following:

    Equifax: 3 negatives
    TU: 2 negatives
    Experian: 0 negatives.

    I started with

    EQ: 25 neg
    TU: 24 neg
    EXP: 25 neg

So I have been EXTREMELY successful in less than a year.. I believe you and I started around the same time? I will post details of all once I can get the remaining off the 2 CR's.. which should be within the next week or two at latest! Thanks for checking up on me! =)

It depends on the type of corporate card. I've been told they have 2 types. One is completely based on the corporation's credit and paid by the company. The other is more based on your credit and you pay the bill and get reimbursed.

I've also heard of inside corporate HR petitioning AMEX to give you one anyway and they'll normally get it if the corporation's credit is strong... so who knows how you got it.

Now, regarding personal cards. Most likely, you'll get declined. They have a very long memory and a blacklist. You could apply and see but I'd say 99 percent decline.

If you go back and pay the old account in full, there are no guarantees but you normally can get an override when you do that. After 1 year and 1 billing cycle after you pay a chargeoff the system is purged and you're no longer on the list.

The last and very slim possiblity that you missed the blacklist. It's happened with Citi.

So it's up to you. You could always apply and then see what happens. Pay the chargeoff and ask for reconsideration. up to you.

I've heard that AmEx does not negotiate at all, is this correct?

Marie - Also, do u know if AmEx would do unnecessary inquiries if I applied and was rejected because of being on the blacklist?

As far as the corporate card is concerned, I am responsible for paying for it myself.. when i first received it, I had a limit on it.. after paying perfectly for a year, I now do not have a limit. So what does that tell you or does it not really change anything?

BTW, When I requested validation from AmEx about 6 mos ago, they sent me copies of every single monthly statement. AmEx is off my CR's, but I am wondering if I would get the blue card or not..

If they send every statement then you're in the system. If you bug them they may reinsert the tradeline.

they will negotiate payment once it gets to a collection agency but you will still be on the blacklist

if you pay it off in full you'll be off the blacklist in a little over a year. You can apply after it's paid and ask for reconsideration.

but given what you've just posted, I wouldn't apply.

How much was the chargeoff for? If it was for a small amount, I would try to pay it. If it was for a large amount then that might be a different story. It all depends on how bad you want an AMEX card. As far as you slipping through the Corporate loop, I have no explanation. Only thing I could think of is that your Corporation guarenteed your card...but for that to happen, you would of had to sign some documents. I work with engineers and have seen a few who had to do that. I trips me out to see someone making $130k/yr with funked off credit.

    Ender:

As I understand, the corporate account is based on your personal credit history and you are responsible for all the charges. Like someone explained earlier, AMEX keeps a long list of past "trouble" clients (probably by social security numbers) and if you are in that list, the system might overwrite your approved application.

BTW, can I email to ask some OT questions? Your email was off thru credit talk.

Did they say that you were denied due to a previous account relationship? How did they word it?

I had an AMEX card that was closed because I was enrolled in a CCCS and the CCCS never informed me that AMEX did not accept the proposal (the monthly amount offered was too low). Since the account was closed and the monthly amount due was not being paid in full (only half was) the account was forwarded to a CA. I wrote to the AMEX executive offce and sent a cease & desist letter to the CA, and am now paying amex directly and looking to pay it off next month. I am wondering would that put me on their blacklist? Would I/ should I ask for reconsideration and reapply for credit? I have better sense of responsible crdit and hve realized the AMEX is a good company to have credit with.

Perhaps because I had an optima so it was a diff. division of AmEx and that was why I was able to get the green corporate card? I am still a bit confused..

But I figure if I do end up applying for the AmEx card, the worst that could happen is I would get a letter, right? I mean, I wouldn't get any hard inquiries would I?

Also - I never signed anything when I got my corporate card. I just got it with a limited amount.. however, after I proved for a year that I made perfect payments, the credit limit was removed.

Thus I am questioning whether I am really in their system or not.

Yet, I will not send any validation type letters as you said Marie, because I don't want to get the tradeline added back on.. it has been removed from all 3 of my CR's. The amount of the chargeoff was quite big..

    Love,

It is almost exactly what you had said. I called them I had 2 accounts from them and charge-off in 92 in their records. I don't know how long my name is in their balcklist and the charge-off acount has already removed from all credit bureaus.

Ron, when you applied - did you notice a hard inquiry on your report or was the letter you received all that happened?

    Ender,

I heard from Jason(Amex Representative)that the Corporate Card is different from the personal card. That means you're on the blacklist of the
personal and it may affect you for getting approval of the corporate card.
They got different blacklist base of personal and corporate card. If you're going to apply for personal, they may denied you because you have charge-off or unpaid account with them.

Ender, they made a hard inquiry on my Equifax and they still denied me. I think first they pull credit from bureaus and then search their database (blacklist). I fyour name is on the balcklist, then they denied you. No matter how many credit scores or what kind of credit cards that you have. They don't care and they don't want to do any more business with you. I applied on-line and they denied you instantly. Then I got a letter from them and they told me that I have previously unpaid account with Amex.
