Okay, I am little ticked (and maybe I am overreacting). Three weeks ago I applied online for a CL increase with Amex. My current CL is $10K and I ask for an increase every six months. I usually go through Centurion Bank via phone, this time I didn't (big mistake).

First thing first, I request a $2500 K increase to match my CL with Juniper. I have had Amex for 4 years and they have always given me pretty good increases in the past - so I didn't think there would be a problem.

I filled out the app and Amex pulled a hard inquiry on Equifax (yuck, yuck, yuck). My household income increased $5K this year so I added on the new gross household income. Just yesterday I received a notice from Amex they needed a copy of my personal tax return. To put it lightly, I was pretty furious. My gross income has only increased 5K (which to me, doesn't seem to be much...don't people get promotions and bonuses, as well as COLA each year?

Well, Amex refuses to give me the CL increase wo/ the 1040 which I thing is stupid. There is no way I am going to send in my tax return for a lousy 2.5K increase. All they will do is turn and sell my info to their financial services dept and I will get telemarketing calls wanting me to invest in so and so.

Should I just let the matter drop or should I contact someone and complain? As I said, maybe I am overreacting, but they have never required this kind of information from me before and to put it bluntly..I am insulted.

When I did a PFB about a limit increase for $4,500 I SAID NO INQUIRY OR FORGET IT!!!
THEY DID A "HARD" INQUIRY...THEN THEY WANTED TAX RETURNS...I ALMOST SAID CLOSE THE STUPID THING...I JUST SAID WHAT HAPPENED TO MY REQUEST TO DO AN INCREASE WITH-OUT AN INQUIRY OR FORGET IT!!!

I had to tell them JUST FORGET IT WHEN THEY SAID MY 18 YEAR OLD WHO WAS ON VACATION ISN'T PART OF "TOTAL H/H INCOME" THAT'S NEW TO ME!!!!

    George,

What did you do? I am thinking of calling and screaming - I probably won't get my way, but it will make me feel better.

Did they give you the increase after you contacted them?

I just spoke to them today. They said for a limit of 25k or more, they require 2 years tax info. But under 25k was ok without it.

I HAVE $15,500~~~I asked for an even $20,000!!!

I SAID FORGET IT, when they asked for tax returns!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is how they treat a customer who has been with them for almost 3 years???

I COULD HAVE SENT JUST WIFE'S AND MINE...BUT WHY???

NOBODY EXCEPT AMEX HAS EVER ASK FOR TAX RETURNS!!!

WHAT IS NEXT???? DRIVING RECORD SO THEY CAN "SEE" HOW I WILL USE MY CARD????

That's how I feel. No one is getting their hands on my tax returns - look at the kind of information they will have in their hands - all my personal info, hubby's personal info, our gross income, our IRA contributions (and distributions), how much we deduct (and what for), blah, blah, blah. Too much info, even my mortgage broker didn't ask for that kind of information.
