So apparently this program is real and does indeed exist. The number I used to find this out is 1-800-253-1709 which is actually the collections department (if you didn't need to call this department anyway, then you wouldn't need the Oasis program anyway, would you?). If you need it, this is the number to call.

Unfortunately, I wasn't eligible for this.

My long story is that my account went bad and was sold off to Nationwide Credit Inc. and I settled the account. Apparently if you settle at any time, that instantly puts you on American Express' blacklist. They did give me the option of paying American Express the difference of what my original balance was and what I settled for. But then that still doesn't make you eligible for the Oasis program. All that does is change your status on their records, as well as the credit bureaus, from settled debt to paid in full. Doing so and waiting a year while fixing my other accounts (obviously) improves my chances of being eligible for a regular card. But if you're someone who settled at any point, like me, that instantly makes you uneligible for the Oasis program. Period.

And that's what the lady I spoke with told me, which actually puts me right where I started: hundreds of feet in the hole I've been digging for four years. Just thought I'd share.
