You can pay AmEx every three days online.

At one point, I was paying the Blue everyday - but after about 6 payments in a row, they made me wait 3 days.

Can you still do this? When I try to make a payment online before my billing cycle ends, I get the message, "You cannot make a payment at this time because there is no balance due."

I'm not trying to pay down a balance from previous months since I pay it off in full each month. I'm just trying to make a payement for charges I've already incurred this month.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

My experience with AMEX is this:

1.) You can only make one online payment per card per 24 hour period. At 24 hours and 1 minute, the computer will allow you to post another payment.

2.) AMEX Blue will not allow you to pay money on an account before the statement is due. I called up when I first discovered this and complained about this. AMEX Optima has never been a problem doing this. They said that "that was the way AMEX Blue was set-up." I think it's crazy.

In an effort avoid interest on my AMEX Blue card, I have my Microsoft Outlook calendar prompt me when I'm 7 days before my AMEX Blue closes (in fact, it prompts me before every credit card is due). I then send them a check with the following form letter:

    January 9, 2002

    John Doe
    123 Any Street
    Any Town, NY 10000
    Phone: (888) 555-1212

    American Express Blue
    Suite 0001
    Chicago, IL 60679-0001
    Phone: (888) 258-3741

RE: Payment for American Express Blue (Account # xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx)

    To Whom It May Concern:

Enclosed please find a check in the amount of $xxx.xx. This check is to be used as payment for my American Express Blue card (account # xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx). Please accept this payment and credit my account immediately.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at 888-555-1212 (work) or 800-555-1212 (mobile). Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

    Respectfully,

    John Doe

    Encl. Check #1234 for $xxx.xx

So far I haven't paid a single cent of interest to AMEX using this method, this letter, and sending it out exactly 7 days before the closing date.

They are AFRAID you will OVER-PAY YOUR ACCOUNT!!!

    HOW DUMB!!!!!!!

For some ILLOGICAL reason, they DON'T want you to over-pay your account...so if you owe $12.18 in JANUARY 2003 and make a payment for $20.00 it "LOCKS" you out even if you charged $100.00 So before your FEBRUARY 2003 statement you will be BANNED from making an on-line payment until the FEBRUARY statement is "CUT"

    HOW DUMB!!!!!!!

HOW DARE YOU TRY TO KEEP UP WITH YOUR PAYMENTS~~HOW DARE YOU TRY TO PAY YOUR BILL BEFORE IT IS DUE~~HOW DARE YOU OVER-PAY!!!!!!!

Ok, my Amex Blue just arrived today. Reading the cardmember agreement it has a grace period. Are they slow in posting payments made online, otherwise I would think you have plenty of time to get it in. Is there some secret to Blue that I don't know about?

Yes, they have a grace period if you mail the payment in. The online system will not allow you post a payment before the closing date. If you want to make a payment before the closing date you need to send it in prior to the closing date and allow enough time for delivery and processing.

Closing date is the 18th of every month. Pay by date is the 10th of the following month. You are saying that the online system won't take payments until the statement prints on the 18th right? Because if it won't accept payments until after the bill is past due, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I understand that you guys, like myself, pay before the statement prints so you will have a $0 balance reported. Is the letter you send the way around it with them? Otherwise either I'm clueless or it's too late for me to be up.

My experience is this; allow me to clarify: if you carry over a zero balance from the previous month/billing cycle, you can NOT make a payment online until the closing date (or to use your words, once the bill has been printed). Once the account has closed for the month, you can pay online.

Since I pay off my balances each month, I don't know what you could do if you have (for example) $500 in recent charges and a $25 balance from the prior month...I don't know if it would let you pay $525 prior to the current billing cycle closing.

Bill "CUT" 12/26/02...bill due 01/18/03 for $102.22 you pay $105.00 on 01/08/03 You charged $500.00 also on 01/08/03...and you want to pay some of that $500.00...YOU WON'T BE ALLOWED TO UNTIL THE FEBRUARY STATEMENT IS "CUT"

This is with the "GEORGE FACTOR" involved...

    :(

    YMMV

YOU MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PAY THE WHOLE $602.22 ON 01/08/03 OR AFTER (LIKE EVEN 01/15/03)...
I CAN'T...(it is like the "NEW" purchases are "CLOAKED" (invisable)...
