    Saar,

How can you tell? Nothing on that page indicates the 4000 bonus points or anything like that?

Don't think the link worked :(

Finally got my Starwood Card and I did use the link
Saar provided, but the "Free Track to Free Nights" guide that came with the card only promises the
standard 1000 Bonus Starpoints for the First Use.

Oh Well-- I'm still glad that I got the card. I love
Starwood Hotels, so I might as well get the benefit
    of additional points.

So, even though the 4000 didn't work out, I'm glad that it inspired me to apply.

On a sillier note-- I think the card itself is pretty good looking. (Better than the Delta skymiles card)

A few of us were comparing card designs the other day at a restaurant, and we decided that the Providian Platinum with the Big P is one of the best-looking. Some of the other Platinum cards just don't look that impressive. Not that it really matters of course. Somebody here brought up ugly cards the other day, so it made us think about it.

Congrats on getting the card! I just got mine yesterday. I also applied through the link and I'm not sure if I'll get the 4,000 bonus points either. I'll make a purchase soon (X-Files DVD season #1) and see what happens after I get the bill.

I think you've got it wrong, Calypso.

The 4K starpoints was an "undocumented" promo, so I wouldn't expect it to appear in the standard manual.

The 1K starpoint bonus is not just upon first use of the card, it is "upon first use of the Card for payment of an eligible stay at a participating hotel or resort".

You won't know whether the 4K starpoint promo applies, unless you use the card, wait for the first cycle to end, and check a few days later to see how many starpoints appear on your account at Starwood.

Thanks Saar-- I was using shorthand when I said "first use." I knew it meant at an eligible
hotel. I'm booked in a few weeks at the Westin
for the Andy Warhol Retrospective in LA, and I thought I would try it there. I *think* it will
work for the VIP promotion since the ad says "when you pay with your American Express Card." Doesn't specify which one.

Whomever came up with the idea of the Starwood card had a pretty good idea. It will definitely make me stay at more Starwoods.

Congrats to you too Steve. Let me know if you figure
out any tips on maximizing the card.

And let's hope we each get our 4000. If we do, Saar
will be a close second in the *trick* department.

    Hey Saar--

I'm staying at a Starwood tomorrow. It dawned on
me that I should have printed out that web page.

    Ooops. It's gone now :(

Can't believe I didn't print it out the day I applied.

We'll see what they say when I call about my bonus.

What is the audio equivalent of a "blank stare?"

I have a bad feeling that I'll never see my extra bonus, but as I said, I'm still glad to have a Starwood. I had actually decided that I had all
the credit cards I wanted, but I like the Starwood benefits.
