    bank inquiries

A hard inquiry demonstrates that I have "initiated" a request for credit. I was reviewing my credit reports and Wachovia has a hard inquiry on two of my reports. I opened a checking account with them over the summer, but did not apply for credit or a mortgage, just a checking account.

Should this not be a soft inquiry?

(I moved and also needed to get new car insurance, I was told that they would check my credit report by both Liberty Mutual and MetLife. However neither of these showed on my report as a hard inquiry, and this was pretty much at the same time as opening the Wachovia account).

Should I approach Wachovia? What should I say?

    Thanks,
    Eric

when you open a checkings/savings account they run both chexsystems and credit (typically). whether or not it is a hard or soft inquiry is up to them. the bank i work for feels that if a person doesn't want inquires not to apply.

unless you have a lot of inquiries, i wouldn't worry about it.

NOW DAYS YOU MUST ASK IN ADVANCE IF THEY ARE GOING TO PULL A HARD...if they are, take your money and run!!!!!

THERE IS NO LAW THAT SAYS THEY MUST PULL A HARD!!!!!!

CHECKING WITH THE BOUNCED CHECK COMPANIES IS DIFFERENT...(no HARM for that)
