Hello. I have spent a lot of late nights reading the boards and I am hoping to send out some correspondence this weekend to begin cleaning up my credit.

    I have a few questions

    1. I have a Wells Fargo CC that has been closed and paid in full. Closed at their request from multiple 30 day late payments. This was paid in full in 2010 and first delinquency was 2007. I called Wells Fargo to ask a question in regards to my account and they have no record of me ever having a credit card thru them.

    What is my next step?

    2. I have an 81.00 paid collections from NCO (original creditor is not listed) that they claim is from Progressive Insurance. What is the best way to get them to remove from my credit report? Nutcase letters? DV? Do I also send a DV letter to all three CRAs?

    3. I have 3 negs in the form of credit card accounts that I am still paying off. Multiple late months, but recently all current. Is it advisable to try to get the entire tradeline deleted? (They were closed at the request of the banks Chase and Nordstrom) or should I try to get individual late charges deleted?

    Thank you!

Also, NCO admitted on the phone that they have no correct address for me and did not attempt to call me (but did have the right phone number)

I would dispute the account through the CRA as 'not mine', however I'd like to have WF's "no record of me ever having a CC through them" in writing first. That way if it magically comes back as 'verified', you're armed with proof. When you called, did you give the account number as well as name as SSN?

DV letters are sent to CA's/JDB's, not the OC or the CRAs. When was the account charged-off? The older the better, and less likely chance they would be able to (or even bother) getting proof from the OC.

You want to save the TL if you can. It's adding history to your credit and the longer it stretches, the better (for your FICO). How long since your last late pay? You can try goodwill adjustment letters (I think there is one or more in sample LTRS). I would suggest starting with the account with the fewest late pays. Creditors have different internal policies of course....but there are a number of them who will adjust off one late pay and all you have to do is ask (you can do this by phone). Also, if it comes down to them only willing to take one off, ask them to take off the latest late pay -- the newer the late the more it hurts your score.

I haven't dealt with Nordstrom in over 10 years, but if I recall correctly Erik Nordstrom was one of the owners....he was a very nice guy, I got to talk to him on the phone once. Send the GWL's all the way to the top, also, don't bother addressing them to Customer Service.

Good luck and welcome to the board.

I don't have the account number. I called to get it. I cannot access my online billing statements because their website claims they have no record of me. I did give them my social and the first #s on the account as listed on my Credit reports. Should I call back and ask them to send me in writing that they have no record of me?

I paid it in full this year. :-( (Before I found these boards.) I was thinking of going with a nutcase letter.

A couple of questions on this.
    1. The WF account I mention earlier is the oldest non-student loan I have on my account. It was closed by WF and has around 6 "30 days late". It has been pain in full since 2010. Do I still try to "not mine" it? Or is it somehow helping because it is paid in full?

    2. Last late pay was December. So pretty recent. I'm a student and my parents both lost their jobs/everything sort of fell apart. So. Trying to start from the ground up here.

Thank you so much for your help!! I am addicted to reading these boards and I am learning so much. I wish I would have known about this years ago.

You could try writing them a LTR CRRR, something like "I'm writing to verify the balance on my account no. 1234, Sincerely Me SS#123 45 6789." ...I realize this is more work than just calling back, but I'm not sure it would play out, you asking them to look you up, them saying no sir we don't know who you are, and then you asking C/S to send you a LTR to that effect.

OR, you could just roll the dice and dispute the account, and if like they told you there's no record, it would probably just get deleted.

Doesn't matter when you paid it off. That doesn't change the DoFD that ultimately led to the account being charged off and subsequently sold to NCO. If it happened prior to 06/06 it shouldn't be reporting any more.

What is your next oldest account? With late pays as recently as 3 years ago, and multiples at that, they are probably hurting your score more than the length of the account history. Payment history makes up a bigger percentage than length does.

You could dispute the account as never late. If they have no record of the account, who's to say you ever were late!?

    Great idea.Thank you!

Dispute this account with the CRAs? You mean?

It is from 2011. Paid it off in 2013. Ultimate goal is to get the TL deleted entirely.

My next oldest account was opened in 2008. Aside from educational loans which date back to 2004.

I was thinking of disputing the account as never late and not closed by grantor. Since WF "doesn't have any record" of me, it seems difficult for them to verify. Do I dispute this with WF or the CRAs?

I am sending a goodwill letter to Erik Nordstrom, too! Thanks for that recommendation.

    Yes.

The WF account isn't much older than others, and installment loans count toward AaofA accounts as well, so even if the TL were to be deleted, I would suspect a score increase.

You would dispute it through the CRA as Never Late.

Thanks for all your help! Two months ago I believed I was stuck with all of these things on my report (because they're official, right?) until they aged off and I was terrified to pull my CR and have to face it. Feeling much, much better now.

When I copied over the contact info, somehow the e-mail didn't pull with it.

    This is Erik's e-mail: Erik.Nordstrom@Nordstrom.com
    This is Peter's: Pete.Nordstrom@Nordstrom.com
    Blake's Blake.Nordstrom@Nordstrom.com

This may be the mailing address, though can't confirm it at the moment:

You're welcome. This site has been invaluable to me. I first joined 12 years ago, was gone for several years, came back and it was just as great as it ever was. Nothing is written in stone when it comes to your reports. CRAs make mistakes all the time. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks. You did include the emails, but when I am quoting you, I can't because I have less than 25 posts so far? I think it is probably an anti-troll thing. Do you recommend emailing them or a formal written letter? (The Nordstroms crew)

I'll be continuing my research and planning on these boards-and hopefully sharing useful tips when I have some successes to report.

LOL -- I see that now....that's what I get for being lazy and not scrolling up.

I would start with an actual letter, send it delivery confirmation (no signature required). This is a GWL and there's really no need to have someones signature in this case, just confirmation for your own peace of mind that it got there. Give it two or three weeks, if no response, then follow-up with an e-mail.

    1. I sent a letter CRRR to Wells Fargo requesting my balance and I have not heard back. Any advice?

    2. I sent a GW letter to Erik N and haven't heard back. Just emailed him and the others you listed.

    1. How long have they had it?

    2. Give them another week or two from the e-mail. If still nothing, try calling (206) 628-2111....I think this may be the corporate number though can't confirm it. If it's not, just ask for it, and climb as high as you can to someone who can help. Let them know about the letter you sent, explain your circumstances and cross your fingers that it falls into the right persons lap.

I emailed the CEO of Nordstroms, Alison Winter. She emailed me back saying she had given my email to the CEO of the Credit Services dept. and he would contact me directly. Hopefully with good news!

Happy to hear about Nordstrom -- that's a good sign.

WF -- you could try disputing and with all that you've been told, it *should* just delete. Only other thing I can think of would be to call them on a recorded line (start recorder from dial-tone) and go through the steps of confirming that John Doe of 123 Main St Anywhere, USA SS# 123-45-6789 does NOT have an account with WF or ever did.

.....then dispute, and if it magically is verified you have evidence. The LTR you sent a month ago, that was a certified one that you have a signature on, right?

I will need to google how to call on a recorded line, haha. Yes. The letter was sent on June 1st CRRR to WF. I have a signature on it.

I just got results back from TU- they "magically verified" my WF account. When I get a letter back, or, more likely, a recording of WF telling me they have no record of any account in my name, how do I proceed w/TU?

You need a recorder, either a tape that suction cups to the receiver (if you're using a land-line phone) or there are lots of apps out there that will record a phone call on a cell phone.

As long as WF in the beginning (on the pre-recorded message) says "this phone call may be recorded for quality control", you don't even have to tell them you're recording. Otherwise you probably do as some states require both sides knowledge of the recording.

Erik Nordstrom emailed me back and said no. ;-( He also said he would have their head of credit call me if I wanted.... should I speak with her and try to get a better sense of why?

what other options do I have (other than paying on time-which I have been)
