Can I disputed this? If so how?

I have a current Blockbuster (used the card this weekend) account. 2 years ago we had a movie that they insisted that we never returned. I fought it, the store looked for it and never found it. They charged us for the movie and it ended up on my credit report. We paid the $29. It's reporting on my Exp CR only. Do I have any leg to stand on since I still have the same acct with BB. Would this be considered a late payment since the acct is still open? I didn't bother disputing this account because I wasn't sure how?

This is how it is listed:

    United Compucred
    Acct# xxx......
    Original Creditor: Blockbuster Video
    Date Opened: 07/2005
    Reported Since: 02/2006
    Date of Status: 04/2006
    Last reported: 04/2006
    Type: Collection
    Monthly Payment: $0
    Credit limit/original amount: $29

To whom did you pay the $29? Was it Blockbuster or the CA?

Need to know this as it effects strategy for disputing.

Maybe I should add the status is listed as: Paid, close/collection account

It makes no difference who is reporting. Do the basics: OPT OUT, delete old addys, and dispute with the CRA as " inaccurate " using the US Mails.

If it sticks, which is highly unlikely, you can use the CYA letter, which is specifically designed for paid collections. This letter can and has been used for either CA or OC.

I tried to delete old addresses with Exp, it got me so far. I was able to delete some that were really inaccurate. When I tried to delete the others the CSR said "so what you ar saying is that these were never your addresses and you never lived at ay of these places". This made me a little nervous so I didn't go through with the dispute of the rest of the address.

You can always call EXP back and get them to take them away, because either you were lucky in the rep you received last time or they do not have internal blocks on those addresses. My personal experience is that addresses are the only thing I normally do over the phone because you can gauge the willingness of the rep to help. If you want to send a letter instead you can use this one, from Why Chat:

Next, take a close look at the addresses you wish removed,if there is the SLIGHTEST discrepancy, write a short note to the CRA, include a copy of a current utility bill with your current address, and a copy of your drivers license with your current address, say this" Enclosed please find proof of my residence address, please remove the address of XXXXX as shown on my credit report # xxxx, as it is inaccurate and I am concerned that this inaccurate address may create an opportunity for identity theft.

If there is NO inaccuracy,or if it was a P.O. Box, substitute the underlined phrase with this:"as I have not lived there (or had that PO Box #) for quite some time, and since many other people have been using that address (PO Box#) in the years since I was there, I am concerned that the reporting of this address on my current report may create an opportunity for identity theft"( you can add this if appropriate "as I have a fairly common name")

I'd prefer to do it over the phone BUT I was stumped when the CSr asked me that question. What terminology do you suggest I use if I dispute over the phone? What if I get asked that same question again? When I asked to have my maiden name removed the CSR said "so this has never been your name"? How do I handle this?

My personal experience is that addresses are the only thing I normally do over the phone because you can gauge the willingness of the rep to help.

For the account, a simple letter, again from one of the best in the area, Why Chat:

    Dear CRA
    My Name is xxxx
My SS # is xxx xx xxxx
I am sending this dispute certified mail # xxx to insure it's receipt.

On my credit report # xxxxx the following account(s) is/are inaccurate
    Account # xxxxx

    I have no record of this/these account(s) from this/these creditor(s)
    for this/these dates for this/these amount(s)

If this/these account(s) is/are verified, please furnish me with the
name and address of the verifying party, the method of verification, and
the reported first delinquency from the original creditor,so that I may pursue
    additional legal remedies.

    Sincerely,
