My scores have gone way down and go up, I been Christmas shopping with credit cards =) and now balance are super higher than before, is there any card that I can get with a score like this?

I have two Lates from Two Years ago, 1x30 Credit Card

And 1x30 Mortgage, both two years old.

    =) =) Happy Holidays Everyone!

If you have a 658 score with such high balances, the you'd definitely be able to raise your score by paying down some of it. For instance, if you pay down enough to raise your score about 5-10 points (shouldn't take much), then you'd likely have a greater range of who you can apply to and better rates.

But if you can't pay anything down, I think you'd have a chance with a card like GM

Sound Cool...You think the lates will be a problem? they are two years old.

I don't know about that... I applied for a GM card with 669 in Aug but got turned down due to high balances.. I was hoping to BT some of them to get ratio's balanced. I too have 1 x 30 from 1999. The high balance was the only reason given on the decline letter. Hope I didn't bust any bubbles.

Hi I just got a 2000 best buy card and checked the box when I applied for the master card, approved for 1250, and all my cards are maxed, my score is 647, good luck, Pam

Well, reason I said that is because when I applied, I had items in dispute, but they did show those lates (My score was 709 in dispute, and was 653 just before I disputed). They approved me for $1500 @15.49%. I asked why the high rate and low CL, they said it was because of the lates that're currently in dispute.

I pointed out that they were about 4 years old.. they said they really can't see when the late occured.. just that it's there.

On thing is that my overall revolving credit usage was at 45%, so I'm not sure how high yours are right now as that may affect their decision

you may be able to get store cards that would help counter the high usage. Cards like menards and carter lumber will give 1500-2000 each starting around the 630s+. My carter one card hit my credit report 3 days after I got it although I probably just got lucky and hit their update time.

If your FICO is good enough that necessarily won't be enough for approval. A store may turn you down with 1 late, a 680 score and a home without a mortgage payment (paid off). The same company may approve someone else with no lates, a 660 score, low income and renting an apartment. That's what steams me about credit scoring...it seem so #$%^ arbitrary. Lowering your balances is an absolute must if your score is below 660-670. Don't frequently apply for credit either, that lowers your score about 1-2 points per inquiry.

My formula for getting approved would be to have a balance of no more than 30%, try to remove those lates, don't have more than one inquiry every six months and keep the same bank. Don't open and close accounts. Credit improvement is just like credit repair, it's a science that is built on a very flawed system; FICO!!
