with a credit card, and if so, I assume it will be listed as a cash advance? Anybody know about this?
    Thanks.

When I worked at a bank, it had to be with cash, so yes, a cash advance would be processed and then the purchase could take place. The only terminal we had was to run cash advances not to process any type of purchases. Not sure if it works everywhere like that.

You could just call some banks and ask them as you don' t have to be a customer to buy them most places.

THERE IS A "BACK DOOR" if you have a BT check, as long as you can write the check to "YOUR HOME TOWN BANK" not "CASH" and not "LKH"...you will get the low rate...but NOT FREE...unless you have a 0.00% BT RATE...

OR IF YOUR A MEMBER, apply for the AAA VISA and go to a AAA office with your card and it will be charged as a purchase...

They said they "EAT" all fees...AND YOU CAN'T TRADE QUANTUM OR ANY OTHER CARD FOR IT...SO THEY SAY...I ASKED...

Chase used to have their currency to go program, you could buy the travelers checks with a credit card, no fees and have it delivered to your house.

But they no longer offer the service.

You can by them from Amex, but Amex charges a fee. (I don't remember how much).

YUP - I have bought them online ...

through the AMEX site. They charge the charge Green/G/P/C cards a fee, and they Airborne them to you if requested.

You pay the amount on your next billing statement.
This is convenient with no hassle.

    hope this helps - dogman

    One other option:

    http://www.bofa.com/foreigncurrency/

Purchase up to $5,000 in travelers cheques and/or foreign currency. If purchasing foreign currency travelers cheques...

Use your Bank of America checking, savings, or credit card account to pay. Non-account holders can use their Visa® or Mastercard® credit card¹. Credit Card transactions will be processed as a cash advance in U.S. dollars.

¹ We are unable to accept non Bank of America debit cards, including those with the Visa® or Mastercard® logo.

I am not sure about what is offered in your state.. but in CA, I have always gone to AAA Insurance.. free traveler's checks there too! This is for AAA members of course.. but you can just be part of their emergency roadside service and still get the benefits..
