I tried to buy a car in january and was not able to because on my credit report BMG MUSIC is listed as an outstanding debt and until th is is taken care of I cant get the car. So for the past two months I have been calling every number I can find for BMG MUSIC and they are disconnected a ring forever or its a wrong number. Even the telephone number listed on the credit report is disconnected. I just dont know its a lousy $52.00 I just want to get this taken care of. if anyone can give me any information on how to get in contact with this company or how I can get this off my credit report I would greatly appreciate it.

    thanks DD

If it was me, I would send the check CMRRR to the address on the CR, and if it comes back undeliverable take that to the finance company or dealer as proof that you have tried to resolve it, but they've seemingly disappeared from contact.

BTW: I would then send a dispute to the CRA that disputes the account based on invalid contact information. Under the FCRA, the CRA is required to maintain valid contact information and provide that to consumers with their report.

I would provide the CRA with the undeliverable envelope.

    Connected with Columbia House...

Calling their "customer service" number during what should be business hours (1pm EST on a Monday), goes directly to a general "you have reached 317-692-9200, please leave a message" voice mail. Is it possible they're out of business? You *may* be able to get away with just disputing the account with the CRA, and it may just drop from no response from the DF.

But...jam's idea does provide more bite if the CRA somehow magically verifies the account upon dispute.

Also, are you sure this is the only reason you cannot get financing? I know people who were able to get an auto loan with scores in the low 500's (albeit an awful rate) and a small $52 collection or CO should really not be standing in your way.

I agree Mindcrime, I do F&I at the auto dealer I work for and a $52. collection is not a roadblock... in fact the dealerships want the sale! The subprime lenders are falling all over themselves for business. It must be a lender he is working with on his own.
