I had a cap one card that I cut up and it was closed by Catholic Charities about 3-4 years ago. Now on my credit report, the balance keeps going up and its a charge off. Is this supposed to happen? Here is how it looks on my report. Also, I DV with cap one and they said they couldn't find my account number so I sent a copy of that letter to the big 3 but they all verified it as correct.

You said it was cut and closed, but did you make payments? Is Catholic Charities like a consumer credit counseling service?

Catholic Charities is a CCCS i believe. Their service didn't work at all but thats another long post. I was making payments though catholic charities but my balance kept going up so I just quit. I believe the debt has been sold to Arrow but since its closed I don't understand why the balance keeps rising.

Did you check and see if the account was sold? I have that problem currently with Capitol One. Even though the original account was discharged thru BK7(cap1 bought the account FirstUnion) the same day as discharge. The balance keeps growing even as a charge off.

I would request a payment statement from Catholic Charities stating how much was paid to Cap1 and when(I am assuming they are ccs). Then I would check all three reports and see if you can find anything else related to that account. If not, I would ask Cap1 to delete the information from your reports seeing how they cant even find you had an account. GET it in WRITING if they agree to do this (NEVER throw away the letter) Cap1 is sneaky

I still need to know is it normal for a charged off balance to keep increasing?

It sounds like the company that bought the debt is charging penalites and/or interest to your outstanding balance each month. Even if the account is closed, you still owed a balance. If this account was sold, per each states statute of limitations they are allowed to add up to a certain amount of interest on the outstanding balance. My guess is that the pro's on this board would have you look into your state's SOL and potentially debt validate the debt so you can see what all the charges were and are for.

    Also...
<Catholic Charities is a CCCS i believe. Their service didn't work at all but thats another long post. I was making payments though catholic charities but my balance kept going up so I just quit. >

Did you contact this company to see why your payments were going up? Do you have a contract/paperwork from this company on what your cc debt interest rate was supposed to be and the monthly amount so you can go back and find out when your account went sour? Most of us on this board have learned things the hard way, but never just stop paying on a debt and expect that it will go away.

Now just concentrate on what to do to get it cleared up. There is SO much information on this board. Search, read and apply it to your situation. You can overcome this. If you send anything...send it by mail, certified return receipt. Don't give up!!! Keep working until it is taken care of. You will be amazed at the information you learn in the process if you don't let the creditors or the CRA's intimidate you.

    Hamb3296..
You want to keep asking for advice on your situation since your acct. was included in BK 7. I believe that no matter if the acct. was sold, as long as the acct. was included in your BK list of creditors with the creditor that was holding the acct. at the time you filed, you can still put this into an included in BK status and then in 7 years it will be removed.

Wado1post a new thread on your question. I don't know if its normal..but if it was sold to a CA then I could see it happening.. Is the original creditor reporting or is it a CA that is reporting to your bureaus??
