I'm sure there are a bunch of us here who got our accounts transfered to mycardaccount.com (mastercard). I never got my account number or the card, and have never been able to get through to the number provided (1-866-889-9179)...always a busy signal.

I finally got an idea and decided to call the lost or stolen card # (1-866-889-9181) and I got through. I was able to get trasnfered to "customer service". After about 45minutes of waiting on hold, I finally got through to someone (I really needed to wait to get through and find out what the heck's going on).

On talking to the person, I found out that I had been assigned a nice brand new 29.9% interest rate, and an $89 annual fee. I asked if any fees had been charged to the account yet, and I was told not yet. Without thinking twice, I paid the account off over the phone, and told the lady I'll be waiting for the account to go to a zero balance, and I'd close the account (she told me it should go through in a couple of days).

I told them that when I call back in a couple of days to officially close the account, I would consider leaving it open if I got that ridiculous interest rate revised (even lower than what I had with providian), and get rid of that annual fee.

So what do you guys think? Did I handle that well or has anyone else had a similar experience with this whole providian change over? Oh and how will this affect my credit report? I have 3 credit cards one firstusa (since 1996), one capitalone (since 2000) and the good ol providian (since 2001). Currently about 50% utilization on all credit lines combined. I was at about 85% utilization with providian, but I just paid it off tonight.

    Thanks!

That amazing customer service is MERRICK BANK> lucky you. ;(((((

The card you received is a "transition card". Don't be surprised when you eventually get a Merrick card.

AND.. don't you love how they changed your terms without notification. How many laws does that violate???

Unless it's your only card, my honest advice is to drop it. I wouldn't trust that bank to even be able to report the trade line correctly.

Thing is I have nothing showing up for that bank yet on my credit report, and my providian is still showing up as open/never late.

It's not my only card, so I'm happy to get rid of it. I just know it'll affect my credit utilization on my credit report

    That's a good question.

They didn't get rid of my account.

They closed and sent to CardServiceCenter (mycardaccount.com or whatever it is) one of my DH's Providian cards. They kept the other one, which had more late pays than the one they closed.

Doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it.

    :)

I wonder if they used crdit limits as a factor?

If you didn't close the account yet they can still hit you up with the $89 yearly fee, even if you didn't activate the new card. I know, they did it to me.
