I'd suggest Capital One, definitely. If you don't qualify for their standard card, they'll offer you a Secured MC or VISA. Target VISA is also pretty easy to obtain if you have no derogs.

    Hope this helps.

Get a dept store card. some may require a regular card, others dont. Capital One is strict. You may not want to give $200 to get a secured card. Discover is not good.

Do not get a First Premier card or Cenntenial. Theyre both from the same bank. They will accept anybody with bad or no credit. They will give you a "credit limit" of $250. but when you receive the card, the fees have been taken off so that would leave you with only $50-70. That would leave a balance on your card. They claim to rebuild credit but they didnt rebuild mine. they gave me headaches. I paid them off and closed accounts. The gold cards is the same. there is no difference.

Many credit unions offer secured credit cards. So if you are a member of a credit union you might consider it. I know Chase has a secured card but I believe that you can only apply by invitation after being declined for one of their prime cards. In other words if you are declined for their standard card they will send you an application for their secured card.

If your a member of a labor union, Household Bank offers the a secured Union Plus credit card. You can apply at www.upcard.com.

Some lenders offer student credit cards to help college students establish some credit history while attending college.

I know Wells Fargo offers a Visa card for students and American Express offers Blue for students.

Bank of America has a secured card that's easy to get.

Bank of Louisiana has a secured card with a $15 annual fee.

I definitely agree with either a Target or other dept store cc or a Cap 1. Even with some derogs you can sometimes get these.
