I am about to apply for a job, in the add it says
Must pass drug screen, background check, & credit
check(Background must be free of misdemeanors, felonies, bankruptcies, and writeoffs)

My question is writeoffs the same as chargeoffs( example charge off on credit report for credit cards in 97 that are still on report) Some one please help me out on this one. I am kind of confuse!!!!!!
I want to make sure this part time job is worth the trouble before I apply.

    Thanks

Speaking as an accountant, our company will "write-off" a bad debt and sell the account to a collection agency. I belive that the consumer credit report will show "Account charged-off to P&L" or simply "charged-off account as of XX-XX-XXXX"

    I hope this helps.

It's the same thing. The ad person just used the word they were familiar with. If you have charge-offs I would either NOT apply or write some sort of explanation letter.

Boy, they don't want to deal with anyone who has any money problems do they...is this a BANKING JOB??

It is a data entry position keying payments of customer. I never seen a data entry position with these type of requirements for just typing.

It is a national insurance company but a temp agency is doing all the hiring.

Wow, what do they think..... that you are going to divert some payments over to your own accounts of something. That makes no sense!! Why such a strong standard for a key entry job.
What on earth does somebody filing bankruptcy have to do with the security of THAT job. Huh!
I thought it was some banking job where maybe they thought a worker would steal money or something. WOW!

    Takes all types,

    Judy,

I work security for Target. We don't have any rules like that, but we do require that applicants pass a drug test and criminal background check. Even to be a cashier.

You wouldn't believe some of the things that have gotten people dragged out in handcuffs each month. Believe it or not, 90% of our stock shortage (includes cash) comes from the employees, not thieves and shoplifters.

One instance, the girl that worked in the cash office was having financial troubles, you know paying her bills, and was stuffing large amounts of cash in her shoe. We took her out for a felony, and now she's going to business school to be an accountant. This is a true story.

Anyways, I think that that kind of background check is good to protect the businesses interest, but not the employee. I have bad credit, but that doesn't mean that I'm going to steal. One does not imply the other.

Anyways, good luck to the person who applied for the job. I've been typing for so long, I forgot who it was! hehe
