I just got off the phone with Chase [Special Dept.]: 1-800-345-8089

They lowered my rate to 6.9%!! woohoo
It's amazing what one can do with the right information. About a month ago, I called the regular customer service number and they insisted that there's no way I can get a lower rate right now (standard 9.64%). Thanks to allen074 for giving me the number. It was so painless.

I tried on my 19% toysrus card but after putting me on hold for awhile I was told that the specific card had nothing but to call back in a month. Either way a great post and a great number. She was really nice.

    Congratulations!! That's an awesome rate.

BTW, has anyone with a Chase Freedom card received a lower rate? Just curious.

How about the Continental Card, has anyone gotten that rate lowered?

They gave my rate to you!!!

Now I get "JACKED" to 16.24%...

The CSR said that is a "PRIME" rate...I SAID...SORRY, 16.24% IS A JOKE RATE!!!!

    CONGRATULATIONS ANYWAY!!!

YOU MUST BE CAREFUL...THEY DON'T KNOW THAT A 2+ YEAR OLD ACCOUNT "PERFECTLY PAID"...IS NOT AN UNSATISFACTORY ACCOUNT!!!

    Picantel,

I am at 12.24% on my Toys R Us card, and they insist that this is the lowest they can go. (I don't believe them.) I am being EXTRA careful to keep my balance between 3-6 % on this card, because they do AR on Experian, which refuses to address the derogs on my report.

12.24%? Now I feel ripped off at over 19%. I am paying the entire card off next week when my check comes. Then we will do a little negotiating.

rackt3, i'm on the phone with them right now and the guy i'm talking to is switching my chase continental card to platinum chase and the rate is going to be 6.99% fixed! It is currently 13% plus. I asked him if I will lose the tradeline because it's been open since 1998 and he said no. It is basically just changing the account number but keeping the "age" of my account!

I had no idea that I have been paying 13%+ just so I can get the miles! I don't care about the miles anymore. Again, my new rate is 6.99% with NO annual fee! I'LL TAKE IT!!!

Can you believe it though? I read another post about credit line increase and I called Chase. They gave me $1500 without pulling my report and minutes later I read this post. I called the number and my rate went down with no annual fee! Tonight is a great night! Yeepee!!

They did the same for me when I upgraded my Continental card. The current account that you have will be closed, and the new one will appear on your CR with the original dates from the old card.

I just got a business card from Chase. I wonder if the same department would be able to lower my rate?

So now I just wish I could find a similar type of "secret" number for FirstUSA and Citi.
My FirstUSA is currently 9.76, and my Citi is 9.74. I'd really love to get those lower too

I think those are pretty good rates for FirstUSA and Citi as far as "standard" rates go. But they'll go lower for balance transfers, often good for the life of the transfer. The only problem is that you shouldn't use the card for purchases if you do a BT. I have 7.9 and 3.9 on Citi cards for BTs, and they'll just sit there until they're paid off. I can't remember what FirstUSA offered on a BT, I think 5.9% for the life of the transfer. But I use that card for my spending, so I didn't take them up on the BT.

Yeah, those are the standard prime rates. My Standard prime rate with Chase was 9.76, but I just got it lowered to 6.9.. just gives you the idea that you can always get those standard rates lower if you get the right person.. in the right mood

My First USA rate is 14% but I am getting points on my purchases. Maybe the reason it's so high is because I am getting rewards? Chase lowered my rate 6% a couple of hours ago but I had to give up the reward points on my purchases. Then again, I do not know the "secret" number for First USA.

I don't have any card with intrest lower than 13%, I really never cared since I never carry a balance. I haven't paid interest or finance charges on any card since 1997.

But I think I would call Citi and see if they would lower my rate from 19.9%

I have the firstusa/bankone Free cash platinum card, and it's 9.7..% or so. So I dont think any rate is set in stone

rackt: i asked First Usa how I could lower my rate, but they said for that type of account that is the lowest rate. I wonder if it's really the reward points? Maybe I should call tomorrow and ask.
