    Hi,
I just got in the mail Citi AAdvantage World Mastercard Invitation letter. I would like to have this card of course, but I was wondering is it same as pre-approved offer or not. From my understanding since I donâ??t have much of credit history, I donâ??t think they would approve my app. I donâ??t want to risk and have one more hard inquiry in my credit file. Am I right or wrong? Any suggestion?

    Thanks,
    Denny

My suggestion is to read the letter carefully. Look for terminology such as "you have been "Pre-Approved" for this offer on the basis of criteria contained on your credit report. Before we finally approve you for a credit card, we will review your credit report blah blah blah."

If this is what it says (or something similar) you're credit score put you in a ball park. After you apply and they review your report(s) you'll either get a box seat, a club level seat, the bleachers, or you'll be kicked out of the park.

My advice to you is the same I give to anyone who asks. Call them first. Try hard to speak with a credit analyst (you may need to try multiple times). Tell him/her your situation and that you don't want to apply unless you receive an indication of where you'll stand. This will give you a "go to" contact before, during, and after the application process. Your new friend at Citi.

    I never apply cold.
