I have two Citi Plat cards. I e-mailed them to ask if there was a limit. Cust. Service said no! Applied for a Citi AA and was denied due to having the Maximun number of cards allowed by CITIBANK (I have the denial letter). I e-mailed them back regarding the crummy info they gave me and here is their response:

Citibank: We apologize for the problems you have encountered.

We have no set number of cards that any one person may have. However,if you have what is determined by us to be a large amount of available credit, we may decline an application based on the number of cards you currently have.

You are at your own discretion when making applications for credit. We can not change this inquiry

The denial letter says nothing about too much available credit!

I have a Platinum Select and a Dividend Platinum Select. I applied for an AA Silver card after my 60 days were up and got the same denial letter about the maximum number of cards.

    tommyy,

About a year ago,I applied for Citibank Dividend Card and they called me to tell call back. I called them and I talked with one of the customer representative from the new accounts. She told me I have two choices:(1) They denied me my application due to the maxomum allowed accounts with Citibank or (2)we opened Citibank Dividend but we need to take portion of the credit from other credit card account to the new account. I agreed to take portion of the credit out of my Sony Platinum Select to Dividend. So I told them to take $1000 out of my Sony Card to the Dividend Mastercard account. That what was happened to me when I applied for the third Citibank card. I think they limit 2 account per person with Citibank SD and I also AT&T Universal Card with them. I don't know they count that one.
They didn't send me any denial letter and they left me a message to call back.

I also have two Citi's Platinum Select and Dividend. I have received the same letter every time I have applied for a third card (AAdvantage). So I have been unable to make the Double back method promoted several times on this Board.

By the way I received a great offer for my current Plat Select today.

3.9% till paid in full. No transaction fee. There are three checks (the first one is payble to myself). I can use it until my total Cr line (10.5K).

Be careful and read the fine print. I've seen BT checks where one would be pre-printed with my name yet the fine-print indicated that any checks made out to me, cash, or marked "for deposit only" will be processed at the regular cash advance rate. Sneaky.

My explanation was that I reached the max credit line for my household income (1/4th)

Hmm. I've exceeded that somewhat with my one Citi account. Odd. It must not be a hard-and-fast rule...

The reasons can change with the weather.
You can be denied for NO reason...

(I have been denied for sufficient credit lines)...NOT A REAL F.I.C.O. REASON.

I just got a denial from Citibank for the AA silver. The reason given was that I have the maximum number of cards already--that is three. They included ATT Universal in the count toward the maximum.

I don't remember a problem in the past in getting these cards a second time.

I thought when converted from AA it went to a different branch of the Citi

Is it possible something has tipped them off?

Seems everyone is getting a decline second time around now for various reasons.

Sam, did they tell you it was 1/4th? my limit is around 1/6th my household income, and I was denied because I have the max. credit they will give me.
