After some tense moments and the time of the closing changes from 3:30 to 5:00 to 1:30 to as soon as you can get over here, we closed on our house today and started the long process of moving.
Interest rate went from 8% down to 7.375%, we changed brokers due to the fact they weren't licensed in Louisiana, and GMAC Mortgage is the one holding the loan.
Unfortuately, there were two conditions attached to the loan. One, I had to pay off the Department of Veterans Affairs ($172) for an overpayment of my GI Bill. Two, I had to pay off my Capital One chargeoff.
I called up Mr. Cooke and made an arrangement to settle a $954 chargeoff that seemed to be getting bigger for $300. He was supposed to fax over to me a letter showing those terms so I could bring that to closing. We agreed on this on Wednesday, and as of the time of closing, I hadn't received a promised fax, so I had to pay the whole amount.
The cool thing is when I get the letter, my title company will refund me the difference before they send it to Capital One.
But, thanks to a lot of people on this forum especially Fla-Tan who put me into this position, we now have a house and I can tell the slumlord I was renting from to take that deathtrip and shove it. :)
