Hi, I just joined this forum. :)

My credit report is frustrating me. I have an unpaid collection account on my record that's fairly new. The original debt was to a credit apcard company. Thy both show as negative accounts on my credit reports. Isn't that considered duplicate information?

Shouldn't the old credit card account be taken off since it went to a collection agency?

Also I was thinking about settling the collection account with a lump sum payment, and writing something like...upon cashing this check, ABC collection agrees this account is paid in full and all negative credit will be removed from all major credit bureaus (or something similar), just above the spot where it is to be endorsed? Is that legal for me to do?

I've gone down the road you're headed, getting involved with making positive changes to your credit record/history.

I can tell you a few things for sure:

You came to the right place. Great info here. Read up on the stickys at the top of the topics/threads. and in one of them there's a great sequence of steps for you to take, and the steps have to be somewhat timed so if you're not good with follow up the first step is to find a friend to help you do that; without proper followup on things you start, you'll be hard pressed to do much good.

You're likely soon going to get a post here in answer to your question with some really terse steps to take, or a link to where those steps are located. But without reading up beforehand the instructions you'll get will be hard to understand.

Sorry to not have a short post to fix your ills in one easy step; I'm just trying to let you know you're on the right track and if you keep working away at it you'll do some good, possibly quite a lot. I have. Many others have.

    Best of luck!

Unfortunately, you can have up to 3 trade lines for the same account.

    1. OC
    2. JDB
    3. CA

Some JDBs don't collect, they just buy than farm the debt out to a CA to collect.

Your credit history is everything for the past 7 years. Now if a JDB sells, or a CA is recalled, then they have to remove.

Yours is a very simple fix, just fax or mail a letter to the CRA's noting both accounts. They WILL delete the OC.

No they won't, they aren't duplicates!
