I had a consumer card opened in 2003 that went delinquent, but I made an agreement with them to make regular bank draft payments to bring it current. I paid in down to what I thought was zero, but they are dinging me with a $28 CO on Aug2012. Of course, I believe this to be an error on their part and want it removed. So, my dilemma is whether I should dispute it or call them, offering to pay it (heck, I'd pay double) in exchange for a deletion. Any recommendations? Thx
I would go the goodwill route. First, ask what the $28 is, was it a fee of some sort that incurred after you had thought the balance was $0, was there an issue with that last draft, etc. Then see what they would be willing to do to work with you on it. You can find a whole lot of information on goodwills and sample letters as well.
