Does anyone know anything about this? I have been receiving emails about this for months? What does it entail? Does it work?

    STAY AWAY FROM IT!!!

This is illegal. If you do go through with it, and you apply for credit anywhere, you could be sued for credit fraud.

    Stay away from it.

It's called file segregation. It is completely illegal. Despite what the e-mails say, people have been successfully prosecuted for this.

    Tammy,

It is a scam. The few that I had investigated want you to apply for another social security #, ITIN, or an FIN. It is illegal. There are several successful alteratives out (many you can find on this very board) that will help you to reduce debt, lower interest rates, get rid of incorrect information, etc. Best of all, they are legal. I hope this helps.

    Tammy,

It is illegal just like the other poster said. Besides, if someone is saying they can do this for you....for a fee I presume?... that's just a scam. You can do this yourself. I know someone that did this. They haven't been caught, so far. But if they do, they will go to jail or whatever.

All you do is go to your ss office and state that you have reason to bleieve that someone is using you ss number to obtain loans and credit. You have had some things appear on your cridte file under your ssn but it's not you and you have been recieveing letters and offers without asking for them. All have you ssn on them. Most likelt you have to have more proof to get them to give you a new ssn, but the person I know didn't. They believed him and he was issued another ssn. Once you give the new number the cc agencies are forbidden to pull the old number. So, you now have clean credit,

but, IT IS STILL ILLEGAL. IF YOU ARE CAUGHT, YOU WILL PAY DEARLY. IT'S FRAUDING THE SS ADMINISTRATION.

    But...

If you have been a victim of Domestic Violence, you may be able to receive a new SS#. But you must have proof: Police records, medical records, etc... Other than that, it's illegal and I wouldn't try it. It's better to take the time and clean up your history, than to DO time and BE history.)

It is not illegal if you have, in fact, been a victim of credit card fraud, or SSN fraud...

    R U sure about this?

I wondered about that. My brother was a victim and they just "flagged" his CR. He has great credit. But if he were to go that route, what would happen to his previous credit file/history?

If you get a new ss# by illegal means...your ss retirement $$$ may not exist (so you better save a bunch of money in the cookie jar!!!

The offers typically sent for a fee advise you to obtain an Employer Identification Number from the IRS, which has the same number of digits as your social security number and use this in place of a social security number for obtaining credit. The company offering to sell you this information is not committing an illegal act directly but are encouraging you to do so.

It is perfectly legal for you to obtain an Employer Identification Number. It is mail or wire fraud to provide false information for the purpose of obtaining credit. This is a federal felony.

Hmm....7 years to fall off my report, a few years of a credit repair hobby, or Prison....gosh the choices :)

    Easier Ways

Stay away from these illegal actions. Truth is that they are illegal and FEDERAL offenses!! Lets be smart folks.

    You have options -

If you are severely in debt and see no way out, then bankruptcy is an option for you. Its not as bad as people make it out to be and its there for a reason!! Not to mention its legal.

If you are up to date, but have some negative things on your report - then use a credit repair agency. Personally I know the owner of a Credit Repair Service - they have an A+ rating with the BBB - check for yourself. You can email me for the web address.

Even after a bankruptcy, you can use this agency to help clean that up. Its worth the effort to clean up your credit.
