The book strongly recommends hiring a lawyer to clean up credit reports. There is even a phone number listed in the book of a law firm that the author recommends. It states the monthly fee is somewhere around $70 but doesn't say how long it takes.

Is it worth it? Can I essentially do what a lawyer does if I remain a faithful reader of this site and follow what has worked for others? Or should I take the easy way out (if it is easier, that is) and hire a lawyer and pay the fee just to free myself of doing what I hate most...dealing with creditors?

BTW, thanks to those who recommended this book.

You can do it all yourself if you're determined enough. If you don't have the time, or don't want the heachache, then hire someone. $70 a month is about right.

I agree, she should do it herself. $70/month is the going rate, though.

We are happy customers of Bradley Ross. I would rather them do it, I am not confident enough in myself to do it, not do I have the time. I can tell you our scores have gone from the 500's, My highest is now 724 Experian, lowest 711 Equifax, my DH is 725 Experian highest, 677 lowest Equifax, TU is in the middle.

DH has 28 deletions, 3 in dispute and 13 in progress
DW has31 deletions, 5 in dispute and 15 in progress

This is with a Bk7 and a 120 day into foreclosure process, yes, we saved the house.

over 1 years time. I have had no positive trade lines deleted, we have not had any reinserted. I can email my case analyst and get a reply in less than a day, I usually email at night and have a reply in the morning. They are fast, efficient, and knowledgeable. I don't think I could have done what they HAVE done for us in this time frame. There are many on this board who have had excellent results on their own, I am just not one to dive into this head on. Yep, I was bldone, bdeoln, blonde!!! I am now gray, LOL!!! I glady pay them every month and am happy to do so. I beleive we will have a clean report in the next year at most. They have a system for filing and sending letters to the credit bureaus that will not red flag the cb's. All I can tell you is that we are very satisfied. And kudos to all of those on the boards who are tackling their own credit repair, you have our utmost respect, I love reading all of the deletions, and triumphs, hate reading the headaches, I don't do headaches well..........My problem was sorting who gets which letter and where do you find all the letter you need to send and what if you send the wrong info, which is whatStephen did and why he sought legal help with his repair. I would have sent them all the docs they asked for and verified everything last tl for them, let alone the time it takes for me......

I should add that this board has helped tremendlously in our credit rebuilding. I have learned many things about which cards, who pulls what credit bureau, what kind of interest are we looking at, what about refinancing the house, etc.
So that is my part of the credit repair process, to get to the rebuilding portion of it. Needless to say, it has been a great ride and has been easier than I thought. I actually thought, no credit, crappy credit, never did I think it could be repaired/rebuilt, but oh how I love to check myfico scores and read our cr's when they come in the mail. A fabulous resource this board and also creditboards.com

I am starting to see diminishing returns in my energy/time versus results. I am curious about what period of time it took to get your scores from the 500s to the 700s.

I think once I've taken on all the ones I know I'm capable of getting removed, I'll contact this law firm and see what they can w/the biggies - liens (released) and BK. If they really will not damage the good TLS, and it sounds like they do pay attention to your directions, it would be worth investing a few months at $70 monthly to see if it can improve anymore.

The other firm could not even answer my questions via email, so I have zero confidence in their ability to follow my instructions.

We have seen the thread posted by lbrown and we think each of us makes choices for what fits our mental state and our time consumption. Not everyone can do their own repair, I am one of them. We do think about what the CR's are doing. We do, just like each and every person on this board, rejoice at each victory on our credit, we just don't have the stress of sending the wrong things, having to do things in a certain order and send all the CRRR's. BR does that for us. In 1 years time this month, with stratetic tactics, Misty has diligently and faithfully performed time and again at ridding our reports of negative trade lines, correcting tl's, getting deletions. I just now read the most frustrating letter from Creditboards.com regarding a gal doing her own credit repair, and I read them all the time, but we don't have to deal with that everyday stress of what she is doing on her own. My head would explode! More power to those than can, but for me/us, DH has not the time, DEARME, HA!, like I said, blnode, bednoe, blonde! Just to do the rebuilding end of the credit is a job alone, and that is what we have concentrated on and done well with. I never thought we would get this far this quickly. We will post bk7 2 years come spring, with BR 1 year this month.

    question for itsmymoney.....

Is there a set fee by BR? If so, what are the timelines for them to "finish the job"? You have been with them for 1 year so have you paid over $840 (if you are paying $70/mo)? Does their fee include cleaning up 2 CR's (your's and your husband's) or just one CR?

So many questions....I appreciate your responses!

    Claudia :)

Thank you safti for the high five! Isn't that seminar just awesome? I attended a refesher this last month, and am so excited that Stephen has a new book coming out. Who would have ever thought that his bankruptcy would lead him to making a great income?!!! We signed up with BR at the $50.00 per person, so we pay $100 for the services of this law firm which I regard with high standards, dignity and are dedicated to getting results. I do not beleive the other major credit repair firm holds those same standards. You will not get spam or pop up ads from Bradley Ross. They have been in the business for several years. There are several reps at each seminar, as are there local auto dealers and mortgage companies, screened and interviewed by Stephen so he can help those who are needing financial assistance. This for us is money well spent. Some think it's ridicilous to pay for this, or and I quote "push it off on someone else" some of us just are not confident enough to do it, I am one of those people. I do the credit rebuilding and that keeps me plenty busy. My hats off to BR, and so is my money. ;-)

Oh yeah, there are no time lines. You can cancel anytime. You decide when and how much you want them to do for you, monies are debited from a cc or your checking account as they cannot by law take money for services not rendered. And go to www.afterbankruptcy.org. and Stephen Snyders's book "Credit after Bankruptcy," read it. If there is a seminar anywhere near you GO, you will not be disappointed, however, because he is finishing his new book on rebuilding credit and has a new magazine coming out, the seminar (he, being Stephen) is on videotape.

You can do by yourself. BR was worth it to me because I didn't have the time. (New father, long hours at work and long commute.) Plus I attended the seminar, so I got the discount.

I stayed with BR for about a year and a half. The people that helped me were great, and I always received quick responses via email.

Now, three years after my BK was discharged, I own a beautiful house I financed at the best interest rate available in our area.

And for anyone even considering BK, attend one of the Credit After Bankruptcy seminars and/or buy Snyder's book.

How does their system wrks? They send the letters to credit bureaus on you behalf and you get the corespondence from the credit bureau? Also do you get the certified return receip or does Bradley gets the green card?

How many letters do they send per month?
Can you reach them over the phone or just email?
What type of items have you gotten removed from credit history?
Do you have to mail them yor credit report when you sign up or how do they get your report?
