I have a question concerning credit scores and the differences between the different CRAs. Why do they vary so much? The number from which CRA is most significant?

    Re: Credit Score & Differences

Equifax is the only "real" fico score, so it would be most important. However we usually like the other 2 better :)

    Re: Credit Score & Differences

Another reason may be the different scales - the high scores possible range from 820 (Experian) to 850 (Equifax) to 934 (TU).

At one point my 3 reports were within 4 points of each other (until the Citi/Sears issues....<grrrr>)...

Some companies don't report to all 3 cras which could impact your scores too... plus, since no one really seems to have figured out the supposed logic behind scoring, there's George's RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR theory, which could explain the variations in scores.

I have a few late pays. Do these count as less points deducted as time goes on? Just wondering because I went from 598 in Dec to 683 today.

    Re: Credit Score & Differences

I think the factors are payment record, length of history, total amt. of debt, mix of different types of credit, and number of inquiries. I forgot the actual percentage breakdown, but I think payment record and length of history make up a big chunk. Of course, all these factors are subject to bizarre variations based on individual profiles.

They never take it off the report when we make it right so why should we take it off the docket when they do?
