When a creditor writes a letter to you to update your credit file, the instructions have to be clear and direct before it can be changed right? The reason I ask is that on one of my accounts it is currently not showing my paying history, but the letter I sent to them states the following:

"We held your loans for a year. During that time if we reported your delinquencies they would be: 30 days past due: 1, 60 days past due: 2, 90 days past due: 7."

This is the only portion of the letter im starting to worry about. I already sent this to equifax to have this account updated for something else, but will they update the history even though it doesnt directly say that its going to be updated? Im hoping that because it says "if we reported" that they wont update the info. What do you all think?

I am not sure but I do keep 'hearing' on these boards to never give the CRA more information they they need. Since you freely sent them this letter I would be concerned that anything on there is free game - but perhaps a board veteran would have more insight? Not sure what the law is, federal or individual states. Maybe someone knows if the CRA's have to wait for an official update from the creditor to the CRA itself?

Sounds like it was a "history" letter. What else was on there thet you were trying to give to the
CRA? Seems like even when I made a few calls to CRA/creditors to get info and actually got through, they always ask for way more that they need in order to 'help.' Board vets can, assist more, I am sure.
