Hi all,
heres my story, I gave up my job about 3 yrs ago to care for my elderly parents (both 84) needless to say I have collections coming out of the walls, but I can handel that
My mom passed away about 2 yrs ago, her SSpaid the property taxes, My dads SS barely pays for his meds, supplies(he's periteneal dyalisis) every 4 hrs 24 hrs a day I do all the treatments and care. his money goes for utiliteis, food and all his medical needs. I found out that we live in one of 3 counties that does not take payments for property taxes. I have called congressmen, senetors, even wrote senetor clinton! Her office called my dads home.(I was impressed) I've contacted town council people, tax people EVERYONE. they all say all or nothing.(more or less) I've tried to get a loan HAHA. you know the answer i got. Does anyone have any sugestions? I don't want to make my dad worry. He really does'nt need the hassel. thanks

Re: dads property tax, ready for this
Have you tried just sending a payment anyway to see how they respond? I would imagine if they did take a first one and you keep making regular payments you could possibly slip by.
If that doesn't work, I would assume there is some type of county council that established the regulations. Have you considered attending a public council meeting and presenting the problem to them? There are also usually reporters at those meetings and who knows what kind of furor your issue could stir up?
I'm sorry you're having such a tough time. My best to you and your dad.

Have you applied to ss for benefits for yourself as caretaker? Have you checked with the County to see if they have a program for tax abatement for low income owners?

Use it up,
Wear it out,
Make it do,
Or do without.

i tried this once. they held onto the check for months, then returned it to me. I had ROUNDED UP to an even dollar amount when I wrote the check. Sorry, we can only accept payment for the EXACT amount . The next bill included a 10% penalty :(((
live and learn. most do take V/MC if that helps.
