Okay - here i was so worried that First USA will screw me over with something - and - here I messed up with them AND IT"S MY FAULT! Yikes!

Signed on for bill pay on Fusa web site.
Accidently - when I typed in my bank account number - i made a mistake by one digit!!!

A day later the payment appeared as "PAID"
However - two days later - when i went to view my transactions on their site it said payment was RETURNED!
I was in a panic - I have a few thousand dollars in my checking account - couldn't understand why it was returned.
Called up fusa internet services - and it turned out - as i mentioned - i screwed up with my bank acct number.
    DANG!
Okay - so i corrected it - submitted payment again - with correct bank info - HOWEVER - the previous payments - due to my technical error will - appear as RETURNED checks!

i asked First USA cs if they could waive any fees (i'm not late on payment - in fact i'm paying way in advance) abd they said they can probably take off any returned check fees - or - worse - yet - reverse any cancellation of promo apr - ONLY AFTER it appears on my statement - because it hasn't shown up in thier system yet.

Anyway - here i was all worried about them screwing me over - and - basically - I just created a mess - and IT'S MY MISTAKE.

I feel sick already over how many phone calls this will probably take to get it straightened out (The payment was returned NOT BECAUSE of insufficient funds - but because the account number was wrong)

    Advil, anyone?

Ahhh come on, they should just let you slide on this one. Will it affect your bank?

Thanx for the response byronian :)

It won't effect my bank - cause the transaction never took place due to the inaccurate checking acct number.
I'm thinking if First USA has half a brain (?) - they will figure out that the first payments didn't go through due to a technical error. I re-enrolled in the their system - with the correct checking acct number and made a payment immediately.
All this is way before the due date - so I'm not going to be late or anything.
i'm just gonna have to wait and see.
    Sigh.
(hey, i know i might be overeacting - but I've heard soooo many horror stories about Fusa - and that's what's putting me on edge here)
    Sigh.
    :)

Boy, this is a classic example of where the world of credit scoring has gotten us.

What would have been, not so long ago, a simple mistake or clerical error has been transformed into a score-lowering financial-reputation-destoying headache. Even if it is corrected without hitting your credit report, care to count the new grey hairs brought on by the stress?

I wonder what has happend in similar situations with others? Surely you are not the only one that has done this.

At any rate....watch your statements like a hawk...especially after this goof. Hopefully they'll be understanding about the whole thing.

    Good luck!

Mark LA, I think that you will be alright. After all, everyone makes mistakes. I do like GEORGE's take no prisoners approach, but I think taking the humble approach would probably work better in this instance. You can always do the GEORGE way if it doesn't work. Charlie

This just happened to me with my cable bill. They shouldn't charge you for returned checks because it wasn't NSF just a problem with the EFT.

Don't even think about building a high balance unless your paid it off in three mos. or else be.......... just a thought of precaution!!!

    Thanks Charlie, MP.
i spoke to a CS on the phone - and also e-mailed them through the site. The internet reply was "there will not be any changes to the terms of your acct."
The live CS person said that she'll make a notation on the acct to make sure I don't get any "returned check" fees - due to the fact that it was a technical error when I typed in the wrong checking acct number.
She DID say that she doesn't know - til the next statement - for sure that they won't tack on a fee - but she doesn't think so. However - SUPPOSEDLY - if that does happen she said she'll cancel it. In the meantime i'm not building up a crazy balance there and will wait to see what happens when I get my next statement.
And of course - will keep y'all posted.
    Thanks for the responses.

1* Why when there weren't any checks? Are they going to report this to cheXsystems?
2*What returned checks? Where does it say they can jack the rate for any thing but paying late?
3*So your bank is returning checks to 1St.U S A from an account that's not yours.
When did you agree with either of them to be liable for any checking account but yours?

    =================
?1* How could there be a return check when no check was issued?
?2* How can there be a returned check fee on a none existent check.
Any way this is a good example of how the check fee scam works.

Another way they violate the law by their deceptive trade practices.
