Date of Delinquency...When is it?

In reviewing my credit report I am trying to figure out how long a negative tradeline can legally be reported.

On this board, I have heard that it begins with the date of original delinquency. So if I have an account that was 30 days delinquent in 8/95 and 90 days delinquent in 8/99 then when does the account go away; in 8/2002 or 8/2006?
