Debit Card Daily Purchase Limit

I have a Visa check card (the ONE card) with bank One. I have a $3000 daily maximum purchase limit. We only really use the Visa function when on vacation. Otherwise, we use it like a standard ATM card.

Is this a very high risky limit in case the debit card is stolen or lost? I am thinking of cutting it down. We do most of our purchases on two credit cards (AMEX cashback and CHase PerfectCard) except when we go on vacation, like DisneyWorld in Orlando. Then we put money in our checking account and use the debit card to avoid large credit card bills.

What is a safer, more reasonable daily limit, if $3,000 is too high?

If I remember correctly, my daily limit(w/ Bank One) is $800. I've only run across that barrier once though. You could probably have it lowered and then if you need to make a large purchase, they can authorize it ahead of time.

If you have the money, why not just go ahead and use the credit card? You say you don't want large bills. But at least you don't have to pay until you get back. You still have your bank account for emergencies.

The size of the bill shouldn't matter if you have the money to pay for it.

Yeah, but sometimes it is nice not to have a $5,000 credit card bill to pay when you come back from vacation.

See my other thread. I use my visa check card for one thing:
    GAS pay at pump.

    result:
local person used my card # to call phone sex. The phone sexor company even gave me the lady's #. It resulted in no ATM card for a month.

    Are you ever safe?

Its been over a month. I have not activated my ATM card. I see no point any more. I will just use credit cards and then pay them off in full.

    no trust left these days.

    BofA's Max limit is $10,000.

Wells Fargo's Max limit is $5,000.

It just depends on where and what you use your card for. Remember that that is a DAILY limit. I have a $750 purchase limit on my debit card and it suits me just fine.

Whats the difference if you pay-as-you-go for your vacation from a checking account, or if you just use a credit card and pay it all of at once when you get back? still spending the same amount of money, right? maybe i'm missing something here...

anyhow, I think a debit card with such a high daily limit is dangerous, but thats just cuz i'm paranoid, lol.
