wow! I applied online and was INSTANTLY approved for a Dell Preferred account. $1500 limit , but at a 23% apr. Ouch! This is my FIRST EVER Instant Approval! Anyhow I don't plan on buying a new computer like today. Perhaps in the next 5-7 months however. I tried calling Dell Finincial services to confirm that I would be receiving a card and account information by mail, however they are closed. The automated account information line tells me my balance is zero, and my available credit is $1500. I just wanted to make sure you didn't have to make a purchase right after being approved, which I assume you do not. Anyhow what kind of experience have you had with your dell preferred account ? Did you make a purchase right after being approved, or no ? Also from what I understand they report some accounts , but don't others. Thats rather weird ....

You'll receive your card in a week or so.

No, you don't need to purchase anything right now...the card is good in the future.

One word of caution: Buying a computer at 23% interest is a REALLY bad idea. Computers lose a great deal of their value as soon as you purchase them... if you're a thrifty shopper, you could find a nearly new Dell on eBay (or elsewhere) for 1/3-1/2 the price of one on the Dell website.

I purchased my Dell system for $350 from an individual. It was only a few weeks old, and Dell had the identical system on their website for $850. The person I bought it from received it as a gift and didn't want it.

Remember, credit approval isn't a reason to buy.....

Thanks for the advice - However I don't plan on purchasing a computer anytime soon and really doubt I'd purchase a system at that interest rate. More likely to purchase lower priced computer accesories, if anything. I really just wanted to see if I could be approved as they turned me down a year or so ago when I was in the market for a new system. My current Hewlett Packard works great, I love it :D It does feel great to know that I have built myself a credit history to where I was able to become approved, instantly however.

I have no negatives , just limited history of about 17 months. I believe they pull experian only, not sure what my score is there. EQ and TU scores are in my signature

Dell's card is through Citi Financial--They pull experian and will not approve if you have a BK.

Everything I had on my Dell account said CIT, never saw Citi referenced in any of my documents.

Dell is through CIT Financial...I thought they were affiliated with citi, but they are not. :(

Yes financing for dell is thru CIT Online Bank, not citi financial.

My Hewlett Packard is doing great. She's a year old but is still awesome as when she first came out of the box. ( knock on wood ) So I won't be buying a new system anytime soon hopefully, and there is no way I'd finance one at 23%. That financing may be used for smaller things however.
