Hi, has anyone (else) ever disputed account information directly with SallieMae? I have asked for a retraction from my credit report re: the fact that they have reported 8 student loans twice, doubling the amount of debt that I appear to owe on all 3 credit reports. Anyway, SallieMae has requested that I send a copy of my credit report to them for review... well, I have sent pertinent information from each of the reports and will wait and see what they do.

In case you are interested I am pasting the initial letter below.

    Dear Sir or Madam:
I am writing to request a credit bureau retraction of the negative late information referencing my student loans serviced by Sallie Mae, account number XXXXX.

I have had protracted discussions with one, Al Trybulski, via email on your borrower self-service website concerning this issue. I recently entered into repayment with Sallie Mae, and noticed that a portion of my payment was applied to late fees. During the same week I was checking my credit reports (Experian, Trans Union and Equifax) and noticed, to my dismay, that eight (8) student loan accounts have late information reported along with balance, amount due, etc. Additionally, though I only have eight (8) student loans with Sallie Mae, there are a total of sixteen (16) student loan accounts reported by Sallie Mae to all three credit bureaus. As you can imagine, this is very disconcerting and when a lender views my report, it raises my debt ratio by a huge margin.

In closing, please retract the negative information reported to the credit bureaus as well as the additional eight (8) student loan accounts that must have been inadvertently reported to the credit bureaus by Sallie Mae.

Should you have any questions, please contact me via email, or phone at XXX-XXX-XXXX. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

    Sincerely,

    RE: copy of letter

Well, student loan servicers make credit card sleazemeisters look like lambs. Anything can happen. Did you send your letter certified mail? Chances are it will be ignored, if you didn't. Also, you should no that Sallie Mae faces no liability under the FCRA unless you make your dispute via a credit reporting agency. Even then, they face no liability unless they fail to update the results to all three credit reporting agencies. What do you mean about repayment? Did it default first? This can trigger all sorts of trouble, something that I know first hand. I would suggest requesting a copy of your student loan file from every source that serviced it as well to see if they are hiding certain collection fees or other stuff. You have no idea the sort of stuff that gets pulled on unsuspecting people.
