I recently applied for Discover Platinum online about the same time as Love. Was instantly approved online. I didn't put much faith in this as I had been turned down by them about a year prior. They pulled Experian. I had only one derog left on Experian, 4 year old 60 day late. Experian score was approximately 705. Today, I received a Discover classic card with a $3500 credit line. Even though I didn't receive the "platinum" card I was still satisfied (as I still had one derog and didn't want to push my luck). So, I was wondering how many people have upgraded from classic to platinum and what was your strategy that you employed for upgrading (i.e. waited 6 mos asked for a limit increase / upgrade etc).

    Kernel,

I applied for Discover Platinum Card on the web two years ago and they didn't approve me for the Platinum Card. I got approved for $3500 and I received a Discover Classic Card. By the way, I don't have any negative or derog on my credit report. I think I got classic card instead of Platinum because it has too many inquiries at that time and it lowered my scores to qualify for the platinum card. After a year, I request the credit limit increase and they approved me for $5000. They upgraded my account into
platinum. They pulled credit from Equifax.
