I believe they are, or they are in business together. I know years ago, Sears would only accept Sears cards, and Discover cards--no visa, mc or amex. When sears found me a long time ago, after I hadn't paid in a while, discover mysteriously found me 2 weeks later! HTH

i used to work for sears many years ago. sears developed discovercard then sold it to morgan stanley back in the late 80's or earl 90's. they still have a contract with each other that says sears will accept discovercard purchases and payments. but when you make a payment at sears it must not be electronic because it takes about 5 days to get to discover.

Where I live, Sears is the ONLY place that gives cash advances on your Discover card.

I have not seen a ATM machine in my area that takes Discover cards, only Sears.
