Just received a notice from Discover Card that they are going to upgrade my classic card to a platium card. This was without me requesting it.

Has anyone else had this happen, and can I expect to receive an increase in my credit limit as well?

Currently my cl w/Discover Card in not in the Platium range.

I had to call to get it...

    It was 100% "PRE-APPROVED"...no applications...no credit report...

I've had a Discover Card for 10 years with only a $3,200 cl. I'm hoping with the upgrade to Platium they will also increase my credit limit.

    Anyone have this happen?

    Wealth,

Discover's requires Platinum to have a CL of $5000 or higher. If they sent you a letter that they were upgrading your card, my guess is that they would at least increase the card an additional $1800 to bring you to $5000.

    Congrats.

Well that's good to hear. I hope they increase it to at least 5k. I'll keep the board posted.

Have you checked your online account or called customer service? Both will be able to tell you if the CL has been increased, if not you can always speak to a rep to verify the letter's information.

Just checked...credit limit still the same:(

Date on my card states I been a cardholder since 1990. 12 years and only $ 3,200. No wonder I only use them to automatically pay my $19.95 internet access fee.

My spouse had a regular Discover w/ a 2000.00 limit they auto upgraded to Platinum same limit.

On his anniversary date the increased it 4000.00 limit.

    Ng,

Is there an higher annual fee associated with the Platium card and how long has your spouse been a cardholder.

I'm just trying to figure out their incentive here. I currently have a low limit, and practically zero usage. Maybe the fees are higher?

It was automatically upgraded by Discover.
There is no annual fee rate 14.74%
had the card for 5+ years (I would have to look at the card for date)

    Hope this helps.

I can only go by what Discover's customer service reps told me. I had a $1500 CL in December and I wanted to upgrade to Platinum. They refused stating I needed a CL of $5000. In January I asked for CL increase they gave me an increase of $3500. I called back and asked them to upgrade me to Platinum and they did. Maybe with the introduction of the Titanium, the Platinum has become more of a gold card. Who knows with these CCCs. They make up their own rules. :)

Two years I request my Discover classic limit increase and they increased my limit from $3500 to $5000. I have to request my Classic Card upgraded to Platinum. Last month they told me that I can have the Titantium Card if I give up my cash back reards of my Platinum Card. I told them no thanks. The rate for the Titantium Card is 12.74% var and my Platinum Card is 10.74% var.

My PLATNIUM DISCOVERCARD is 13.74%, BUT I only use it for BT'S right now...

    1.90% BT TILL 09/26/2002

I would trade for the TITANIUM DISCOVERCARD, but only if they went 9.99% OR LOWER...

    George,

I have a coiuple of Discover Platinum Card and some of them converted from Novus card.

Discover Platinum Card 10.74% 3.9 BT, 14.99% fixed 1.9% BT, (Converted from Novus )
    Private Issue Card 11.99% fixed.
Now all of my Discover Card has 0% for purchases for six months because I called to Retention Dept to ask for lower APR.
