Sometimes we can talk credit while playing golf. LOL My golf partner told me in the strongest terms that he just cancelled his Discover card as Discover raised his apr. to 14.9% from something like 9.9%. I was surprised as he has received some terrific BT's from Discover at very low apr. and his credit is good ( low 700's). Without going into more detail than you want to know, I suspect that this increase in apr. is just part an across the board attempt to increase the apr. Discover gets from it's customers. Normally, I would not tell a second hand story. Since I have, I feel the need to state that there is only a remote chance that my golf partner may have been late on a payment. Also, he is financially very successful. Therefore, I am taking a chance and forwarding the story to all of you. I am a past Discover card holder. My experience with them in days gone by was good. But then I always paid the balance off every month. Best regards, Jim
Hi GEORGE !! My friend was always getting those 1.9% apr. for nine (9) months BT's. He has a large family so a BT here or there is a convenience. BTW - I saw your post on another thread about CA. Unemployment benefits are a maximum of $430 a week here with a one (1) week waiting period. This is not much but it helps. Best regards, Jim
Jim, I keep calling the Discover Retention Dept to lower my APR every six months and they cannot lower my APR. They keep giving me 0% fixed APR for purchases for 6 months. 0% APR is better than anything. From time to time they sent me 1.7% fixed APR BT checks and it lasts for six months. Ron.
The cc companies are raising apr.'s including Discover. Are the Discover BT's free or does Discover charge a 3% fee?
WARNING...I did a BT on DISCOVERCARD and my bill came with $0.06 in the PURCHASE column...I complained and got my $0.06 credit...the next month $0.06 again!!! They said they did ONE COURTESY credit, but they will do no more... SO THEY WILL GET $0.06 EVERY MONTH TILL PAID IN FULL!!! They FINALLY told me that is the $29.00 FEE in the PURCHASES COLUMN!!!
The ONLY way to get rid of it is buy something at a store and take it back and use your DISCOVERCARD for the credit!!! ...OR PAY IT OFF...AND SOCK DRAWER IT.
