...if I dispute? If they verify the information on an item which is 5 years old, and mark it updated as of 2004, does the item then stay on there another 7 years?
If not, then when does the 7 years count from?

They never take it off the report when we make it right so why should we take it off the docket when they do?
By the way, this really means date of original delinquency. Add 180 days to this date and that's the start of the 7-year clock.Originally posted by lbrown59
Date of last Del.
You may not find this date on any of your credit reports. You might have to call the CRA and ask for it.
Thanks.
I have a few items which I will need to attack then.
I have a few old collections....paid, about four years ago. What is the ideal way to go about getting these removed....and also will it make a great difference in my score?
Also there is a judgment which is about three years old, has been paid. Are there tactics to get this removed?
Phoenix,
It's now up to you to determine the date of the most recent delinquency, which immediately preceded a negative action, occurred.
Your reporting period runs 7 years from that date.
:)

FCRA Section 605(c)(1):
The 7-year period...shall begin...upon the expiration of the 180-day period beginning on the date of the commencement of the delinquency which immediately preceded the collection activity...
The 7 year reporting period is measured from the date of the most recent delinquency, immediately preceding a negative action.
Here is one of our most valuable threads which deals with this issue.

1* Validate and get old addresses removed.
2*GET any address connected to it removed from the CRAs, were you correctly served?
Have you checked into getting it vacated?
