Anyone have knowledge of a "Emerald Finance Co" of Mesa, AZ. They were on my list of disputes with the CRAs and they replied to me with notice that I still owe them for financing an Auto Insurance Policy. The auto was sold several years ago and I canceled the insurance at the time of sale. Yet they contend that they served as the finance company for the auto insurance policy. I received 2 letters from them about 6 to 7 days apart. Both letters contain the name of the Ins. company, same account number, yet 2 different amounts. First letter state I owe $160 and ltr #2 state I owe $480.

Two of the credit bureaus are reporting the item. One CRA has it listed as $161 and the other has it as $100.

Any advice?

Re: Emeral Finance

Yes, Emerald Finance was/is the back end finance company for some auto insurance companies.

I started a policy about 7.5 years ago. Sold the car, cancelled the insurance with the agent. I thought that was the end of it.

A year ago, this 'Emerald Finance' shows up on my reports.

Long and short of it, they claim that they finance the entire amount and, regardless of whether or not you cancel, you owe THEM for the entire policy. What a crock!

Anyway -- in my case, it was past the SOL for them trying to collect the lousy $58, so I told them to kiss my rosey red butt. I disputed it several times, only to come back as verified. Emerald even updated it to say the balance was $156!

I don't care -- the 7 years runs out in 4 months, and it's only on ONE of my reports (successful disputes on Equifax and TU).

They think people are stupid.
