    Equafax has it all wrong

So I just pulled my Equafax report and found out that they have all of my information wrong except for my ssn. They will not tell me who is reporting my info incorrectly so I have to go through each creditor myself and figure it out. One of the items that is on there has been verified with Experian. I called creditor and they could not pull up any records of the account. It was an account that I had lates on and then paid off several years ago. It is a cap one card. Cap one said I could fax them a letter with my ssn and information and they would investigate it. But it has been my understanding that since they are the OC they are not required to verify unless it is disputed through the CRA. Am I better off to dispute it through another agency and then try to get Experian to delete it if the other agency doesn't verify it?

Have you sent a written dispute to Equifax?
If not, do so, sending it CRRR.

If that does not get it corrected, file a written complaint with FTC, and contact your state AG. In your complaint, indicate that you have disputed the erroneous information, they have refused to remove it, and will not disclose who is reporting it, apparently expecting you to guess or chase it down yourself by contacting all your creditors. Include in your complaint that they have refused to disclose all information in your credit file as required by FCRA.

If Equifax is withholding from you information on the source of the erroneous information ending up on your reports, with the result that they are keeping that erroneous information there, then they are failing to take reasonable measures to maintain accuracy, and failing to disclose to the consumer all information in your credit file, in violation of their obligations under FCRA.

I have faxed in the documents that they asked for to get my name changed. In the same fax I also asked them to provide me with the information on who is reporting my incorrect addresses per their obligations under federal law.
