Equifax and account status

    Im pretty confused about something, maybe you guys and gals can help. I had a student loan years ago that went to collection and were paid in full. On my Equifax credit report under the section "type of account and status" it shows the account as being "120+ days past due". This is kind of misleading, because technically the current status is paid. Is there any way that this can be changed? Is this correct reporting on Equifax's part? The other thing is the oringal debtor had the account listed as a chargeoff, and after disputing that they have it currently listed as "Student loan assigned to government". Ive never seen this listing before, so im not sure if its better or worse than it saying chargeoff. Anyone with knowledge of this please help me out. Thanks!

    Try disputing it with the CRA as PAID/NEVER LATE BALANCE $0

    Or dispute it as BALANCE $0/NOT 120+ PAST DUE IT IS PAID

    You "MAY" lose it...but if it is a NEGATIVE...you probably don't care

    I just called up Equifax to ask them about this and was told that 120+ days past due was the final status on the account before I paid it in full. I told her that since its paid that it wouldnt be right to say the status is still 120+ days past due, and she says that whatever the status of the account was is what it stays at, and that the only other things they can list it as is "pays as agreed", but that wouldnt be correct because it was 120+ days past due when I paid it. Im not sure what I can do with this. What a headache.

    YOU MAY HAVE TO SETTLE FOR THIS...

    I dont think they can have that under the current account status. There was supposedly only 3 designations that can be under that section or something like that. Can anyone tell me if they know if the "Student loan assigned to govt" is considered a negative listing?

    ==================
    If you paid it as agreed it could not be 120 days late

    I guess the problem in all this is that this description is under "current status", and there is a seperate section for payment history, which is where the 120+ days late part should be. This account is the only one showing up under "negative accounts" and its paid! I have a few other collections and when I paid them they have them showing "pays as agreed" since I paid the balance in full. Im going to try to dispute the account in the next couple of days, but I might even try doing that nutcase letter if it really works. Where can I find info on it? Does everyone think it could possibly work?

    If it was paid as agreed you can't put 120 days past due under current status and have it reporting correctly.
