Hi all... I just got a reply to a dispute that I filed w/ Equifax. I disputed a collection acct that is showing as unpaid b/c I already paid it thru another CA. Sent Equifax proof (money order) that it was paid. Before I sent the dispute to Equifax I tried to contact the CA (the one that is reporting it as unpaid) and their phones were disconnected and the CRRR letter was returned as "undeliverable". Sent all of this to Equifax, figuring they wouldn't be able to verify and it would have to be deleted, right? Well, the response from Equifax said it was verified and they also put something to the effect of accounts may stay on file for 7 or 10 years.. blah, blah, blah. They also listed the same address and the phone# that is still disconnected. How could they verify this info if the numbers are disconnected? Plus they didn't even investigate the other dispute I had. This is so wrong! Any advice on the best approach to take would be greatly appreciated! :)

Ask for a Procedural of how they verified that particular listing. IF they said they mailed, phoned or other means, Ask what other means. I would sue.

Thanx kiyi... that's along the lines of what I was thinking. I did a search and found a fax # for one of their higher-ups and I was thinking of faxing him or her directly. I was just so upset when I got that letter in the mail. Thanx again! :)

Has anyone ever gotten an honest to goodness procedural disclosure from any of the big three?

No - the one time I did - I was labeled FRIVOLOUS by TU. I emailed Don Richman - that was a joke.

tell me about it,, all I can think is Bizarre,,, I have a CA acct for 90 bucks, last reported 1999, when I disputed, NEVER had an acct w/ ATT in my life, it came back verified "checked" within 2 days, OVER the weekend! then when I called the number on the report, Number no longer in service,, when I called Equifax, and asked for the address of CA,, the address I checked on Property records in georgia, the house is occupied by a family, with needless to say no CAs, house bought in 1/2000,,, I would love to know HOW equifax verified, this CA doesnt exist anymore, How could I pay the 90 bucks if I wanted!!!

and second,, their terrific notification system,, that I paid 70 bucks for,,, they dont notify me of inquiries or changes At all!! Aug 1, I pulled my report and was pleasantly suprised,, A sears acct due to come off in 10/2002 was gone, FICO up 30 points!!! then tonite I pull the report,, hun,, two years early all, three charge off Student loans,, GONE;; WOW ( I wont be surprised if they are back next month) but anyway,,,,,,,,,, my FICO,,, up a whopping 1 yes 1 point,,, cant win to lose,, and cant figure this system out!!!!!!! uhhhhhhh

I had that happen to me as well. It took me about four tries to get Heilig Meyers removed and four returned letters to four different addresses (or maybe it was three...can't remember) and the phone number that turned out to be a fax number, all of which were given to me by Equifax. I was finally able to get in touch with the company headquarters...or what was left of it, and apparently they removed it.

Equifax can be really, really stubborn.
