As some might recall, I was helping a friend with credit repair recently. I gave him all of the information he needed and helped write a few letters and told him how to follow up. Well, here is what has happened with Equifax.

After submitting second round of disputes in beginning of September I think, they sent letter asking for proof of ID. Even though they didn't ask for that in the first dispute letter in the summer. He sent them proof a couple of weeks later. About 2 weeks later, they send ANOTHER letter asking for proof of ID. He didn't respond thinking that it was a mistake on their part since he had already sent proof.

So now almost 2 months has passed and they have NEVER responded to the initial dispute. Question is..what should next steps be? Have him call and ask what is going on? Send a letter telling them they are in violation and asking that all disputed items be deleted? Just send the dispute again and wait 30 days more? Thanks in advance.

When he sent the proof of ID, did he send it certified mail, return receipt?

He then has the green card showing the date they signed for the ID. I would then at 30 days after they received the ID, send them a letter demanding that they remove everything he had disputed. Explain what happened and enclose a copy of the dispute letter, their letter asking for ID, his response with ID and a copy of the green card showing the person at
Equifax that accepted it and the date signed for.

You can advise them, that since 30 days have passed since they received his dispute and they have failed to comply with terms of the FCRA by not investigating, by law, they must now immediately delete those items.

Be sure to also send this certified.

Need further advice. Friend just got a copy of his Equifax report and they did actually delete 2 of the disputed items but despite sending the ID verification, they still list a very old address for him and they never sent him the results of the investigation. Should we still send the letter asking for deletion of everything that was disputed even though they DID investigate and just didnt' notify him of the results?
    Thanks.
