    Hi folks,
New here.I have been lurking for a while and find the discussions very useful, this is whole differrent world here.

Well, I've been monitoring my credit past few months and Last week I am shocked to know that my date of birth was put wrongly as 1907 in experian report.I am actually in my 30's.So, I've ordered privacy guard trial yesterday to see what it says in other CRA's and the other two reports showed it correctly. My address and other info is correct in all three reports (apart from some spell errors).

This is completely knew to me. I donot know if this is huge issue or some kind of typo that can be ignored.

I have lot of questions and am in utter confusion as to what to do. Apprecite you guys' responses.

1.Is this identity theft? How do I make sure it is not. So far I do not see any new accounts opened or address changes.Everything looks okay in the credit report. What else, should I be doing?

2.Should I dispute with Experian? Will it effect my credit score? I just bought a home and closing in September. My credit score is 680 good enough to get me prime rates. If my score goes down, I will get higher mortgage rates.

3.My address is spelled incorrectly.Should I dispute it? Will it effect my score?

4.I have been with my current employer for the past 3 years. However all 3 reports showed my previous emplyer with whom I workd for 6 years. Is this okay?

Please help me and give me your suggesstions.

    Thanks.

Wrong DOB could be caused by a person at the DF's who is either too lazy, or decides to not enter the data properly.

I've seen wrong DOB's entered when one company reported my account (or verified a dispute), they would move my b-day from September to July, every single time. Fix the DOB, and dispute it again, and you guessed it, when the results came, I was born in July again. :)

I've seen wrong DOB's entered when some company decided to pull a credit report, and left the DOB blank, that was entered as Jan 0, 0; then the CRA refused a dispute because the PII didn't match, of course the PII wouldn't match, there is no one alive who was born on Jan 0, 0, they'ld be over 2004 years old, wake up. :)

Same with SSN's; a wrong SSN can be entered by a DF once, and make it look like you've tried to use a bogus SSN, and possibly end up cross-linking your file with the bogus SSN as a bonus.

    Always dispute incorrect information.

As far as the address is concerned, if there is someone who is reporting the incorrect address, they'll refuse to update it, but then you can contact the company which is providing them the wrong address, and request that they update it immediately.

Once they've reported the account under the right address, then you should be able to delete off the old incorrect address.

Incorrect PII shouldn't affect your score.

Were you born in 1970? It could be that one person at one company tried typing 1970 a little bit too fast, and hit 1907 by mistake.

I wouldn't worry about employment information, that usually gets updated only when you apply for credit, if the company which pulls your report sends it to them.

exp is the worst about putting in wrong information.

my name has been spelled wrong.
my DOB placed me 10 years younger than I actually am at one point (and they argued with me about it when I disputed it because someone reported it to them incorrectly...it must be true if a CA says it is, right?)
I've had the same address on my credit report 5+ times, all with a variation of mispellings.

    bah.

now my employer is spelled wrong, but I don't really care about that one..not worth the hassle of trying to convince them that they've spelled "Technology" "Tenology"

Between my 3 reports, 2 out of 3 had wrong DOB. One had wrong year. I've never had a problem with any credit application. Who knows what they check to confirm identity.

A hi-tech wallet to deter identity theft

    Hi all,
Wrong DOB- Identity theft is now very common and we must be aware of it.Let me use this occasion to present a new identity theft prevention device. This is a wallet named iWallet! This is a hi-tech credit card and cash wallet that uses biometric fingerprint reader to identify the owner of the wallet. Also this wallet is connected to selected PDA's using Blue tooth technology which will produce an alarm if the phone and wallet is over 30ft in distance.

Hope this will definitely help you.
    Thanks...

Data for employment address DOB etc comes from the companies listed in your credit file when the account gets updated. This is why you have 100 different variations. The 1970 was most likely a fat fingered person at one credit issuer
