FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

Would you like to know which credit bureau will be pulled by a creditor if you apply for credit? This may help...

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whopulledmycredit/

In another thread, someone referenced an Excel database file which was based upon the data publicly posted on the now-defunct millcbs.com web site. (In case someone new is reading this, that site invited consumers to post information regarding which CRAs were used by which creditors with respect to credit application inquiries.) Hundreds of consumers -- including myself and many of the people reading this -- generously provided the data which that web site made available to the public via a web-based database. That data is included in the file I posted.

Quick Q&A... How did you get this data, PsychDoc? Answer: On that web site, there was an option to "SEARCH ALL" with no criteria. The result was the full list of inquiries. I simply inserted that publicly available data into an interactive Excel spreadsheet for my own use. When the site went out of business, I realized that the data would still be useful to others.

I will update the Excel database frequently if others will post details of their inquiries to that site:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whopulledmycredit/

Include:

1) The name of the creditor.

2) Which CRA they pulled (Equifax, Experian, or Trans Union).

3) Your state.

4) If you know it, your credit score when the inquiry was pulled.

I hope this helps someone!

FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

I posted links to Creditboards and Creditnet in the "links" section. (I realize that this is of limited value to anybody reading this now, lol, but if the inquiry thing is later passed along to others I would like new consumers to visit my two favorite sites.)

Doc, thanks a bunch. Unfortuantely, I joined these boards too late to take full advantage of the info on millcbs.

I just wish some more Ohioans would add their inquiry data.

Although so much vital information can be aggregated within the FAQ and Glossary threads, this resource seems uniquely useful. Thanks for making it available, PsycDoc. Thread "stuck."

Hi and thanks, kelcol! "AP" is for military personnel stationed in the Pacific. Here's a handy site I found with the full list:

Nick, I'm in Ohio too.

Before Millcbs went down I printed out ALL that applied to Ohio. I'll be glad to share if you send me a fax number.

Re: Re: FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

Hi, Ginger, you need a fairly recent version of Excel (at least 2000) in order to view the file.

However, I've prepared two helpful charts for those without Excel:
-- INQUIRIES ARRANGED BY CREDITOR: click here
-- INQUIRIES ARRANGED BY STATES: click here

I've also linked both charts to the top page of the regular "Who Pulled My Credit" group here:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/whopulledmycredit

I hope this resource helps you!

Doc

P.S. to Butch: Thanks! :)

Re: Re: FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

I just updated both charts (you no longer need Excel) as well as the Excel file itself to the latest version dated March 25, 2003. We're up more than a hundred new inquiries since last week. Hope this helps somebody.

If you've not yet contributed your inquiries, please visit the group here and share the wealth by simply posting a message there.

Re: FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

New features as of March 26:

1) I've cleaned up the no-Excel-needed charts and added a new one. The three charts are now very easy to read and navigate and are:

-- SUMMARY CHART (new). Want to know what percentage of the time a particular CRA is pulled in your state? This chart will tell you. It's a nice overview of the data.

-- ALL INQUIRIES ARRANGED BY CREDITOR. If you would like to see the patterns of pulls by American Express, this is your chart.

-- ALL INQUIRIES ARRANGED BY STATE. See which creditors have pulled which CRA in your state here.

2) The Excel file now also includes the percentages mentioned in the new chart. Of course this file allows you maximum flexibility to analyze and manipulate the data on your terms anytime you like without bothering with the internet. Pull-down menus make it easy to quickly grab data by a particular creditor, by any state, or even by CRA. You'll also have the raw data, so if you're good with Excel you can make your own creative pivot tables.

Re: FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

New feature for Who Pulled My Credit, March 27:

I've added a fourth chart -- TOP CREDITOR PATTERNS -- which analyzes pull patterns for the top creditors. "Top creditors" is operationalized this way: those creditors who've had at least 10 inquiries reported so far. This provides a quick way to answer questions like:

-- Where can I apply that will practically GUARANTEE me an Equifax inquiry? (GM Card is one.)
-- Where can I apply that will practically GUARANTEE me an Experian inquiry? (Orchard is one.)
-- Where can I apply that will LIKELY result in a Trans Union inquiry? (Interestingly, nobody came in at 100% on Trans Union, but Kohl's came close with 92%.)
-- Where can I apply which will practically GUARANTEE that a particular bureau WON'T be pulled? (Have a look, lol.)

These charts automatically update with each spreadsheet revision, which occurs at least weekly. I think (hope) this new feature may become a very useful one for certain consumers.

Re: FIND OUT: Which CRA is pulled?

Thanks for all the helpful info. You have helped me to get $10,000 in new credit within 2 weeks.

I live in Queens, NY and this is what each of them pulled:

MBNA - Experian only

HSBC - Experian only
