First Premier Bank

I cannot understand for the life of me the posts concerning First Premier Bank. I have a Visa Future Card and my husband has a Centennial Mastercard, we both got them in January.

In 1999, 2 of our First Premier Cards were charged off. I disputed them on my credit reports and they were deleted. First Premier Bank obviously "let them go" because we are customers again, I suppose.

Anyway, First Premier Bank does charge high fees, but they have toll free customer service and always post my payments in a timely manner. Their customer service representatives are very nice, and I like First Premier.

My husband also has Cross Country Bank, don't even ask... lol

    Regards to All,

    Lucy

    Lucy,

Apparently you and your husband could care less about rebuilding your credit. The fact that you have two charge offs with the same company shows how utterly inept First premier actually is....I'm suprised you and your husband can get any credit with that atrocious history. If your satisfied in sub prime land so be it.

Oh, and Lucy, next time check and see how much your payin in monthly maint. fee and APR along with the annual fees. First Premier is NOT a good company.

Hey Sean, people have to start somewhere! Where'd you start?

Better to start with any card other than first premier. I restarted with them and they suck believe me. High fees, no website, no credit limit increases, participation fees every month even on credit balances, and getting your deposit back when your ready to move on is impossible. My wife started rebuilding with cap 1 and has had a very positive experience.

The latest mailer I got from them says they charge you 25.00 just to consider your first cl increase. I can see it now your 15.00 under your 200. limit and an emergency comes up. You call ask for increase and the answer is no cause they never increase your limit. But they charge you the 25.00 which puts you over your limit and then they hit you with the 29.00 overlimit fee and then ...........Well you get the point with these guys the just never ends.

    Re: First Premier

    LoFico,

I started out with my first card in college, American Express and paid my bills on time every month. I found that by making timely payments and staying within your established credit limit you can't go wrong. While my remarks to Lucy may have been perceived as insulting, one can't help but wonder why someone who has TWO charge-offs with the SAME company is given credit again by the same company that is known to have questionable business practices.

    I STARTED WITH...
    JC PENNEY
    SEARS
    MERVYNS
    STANDARD OIL
    SHELL OIL
THEN A MASTERCARD (EVENTUALLY RAISED TO $17,000).
    NEVER A SECURED CARD...

    >$100,000 (BUT I'M DUMPING SOME).

    Eddie,

I couldn't have said it any better myself. You're right on target with the comments about First premier.

I had the whole subprime gammet : Cap1secured, First Premier, Orchard, FNBof Marin and FCNB.

First Premier was by far the worse. They have higher fees than FNBM I think, and they will not give you an increase at all. Charging $25 for a increase is terrible w/ their fees. At least FNBM offered one before I closed.

Orchard made me pay $10 for a $100 increase.

Capital one unsecued me for $99 and gave a $200 increase at year one.

FCNB gave me an $100 w/o asking at 4 months. I love FCNB.

Plus that ugly green dinosaur card was only used for online purchases.

I dont see how anyone can rationalize a FP card when there are so many other banks who can offer more.

    Roni,

Your the best, what you said is soooo true. I can't even begin to understand how Lucy can defend that company. Have a good day and Happy Mothers Day.

I continue to rant about these people only because I want others who may be tempted by the lure of an easy card to think twice before they pick this nightmare. There is simply no justification for some of the stuff they pull.

I agree FP is at the bottom of the list when it comes to sub-prime cards, but I used them to start rebuilding when I need it and dumped them after a year. During that time I was successful in having them waive that stupid participation fee and lower the annual fee. Big steps for a lousy card. I happy to say that it's history with FP.

Just my two cents here: I realize that we utilize this board because at some point in the past we have damaged our credit, but if you've charged off two accounts in the past with First Premier as stated in the original post, you deserve to be doing business with them again. How many strikes do you get?

    Hey Saar:

Nope, I am not an authorized user or otherwise on the Crooks Country Bank card. Unfortunately my husband's credit is much better than mine, so I have to watch Crooks Country like a hawk. I always send the payments certified with a postal money order, am paying off slowly but surely and will be closing the account before his credit gets messed up too!

    Sean,

Obviously you do not know my situation, however, I am rebuilding my credit. I had a car loan for 3 years that was paid in full/never late for $10,000. I have a new car that I purchased in April 2000, that I have never paid late. I also have a mortgage payment.

I only got the two credit cards because we are refinancing in December and since my current mortgage company does not report, I need additional credit builders. We have fallen on hard times in the past, but we are trying hard to do everything right now.

So, in short, I do not understand your attitude, that I don't care about rebuilding my credit, because frankly I DO CARE! I need a lower interest rate on my mortgage!

And further, you people can rant and rave all you want about First Premier Bank, I could care less. I wouldn't touch First National Bank of Marin (as Roni mentioned) with a thousand foot pole. They have a charge-off rate of 41.96%! Even Cross Country Bank only has a 25.99% charge off rate, so obviously First National Bank of Marin isn't worth crap.
While First Premier has a charge off rate of .28%.

First Premier posts my payments in a timely manner and they have given us a second chance, which frankly I doubt any other credit card company would do. I didn't say they were a perfect company, but they are much better than Cross Country. At least I can send them a check and don't have to worry about them stealing money from my checking account like First National Bank of Marin and Cross Country Bank do.

As for your $1500, I suggest you write to the FDIC and the State of South Dakota Banking Commission to get your money back, if it works with Cross Country (I wrote to the FDIC and State of Delaware Banking Commission when they tried to rip me off) and I got a full refund, you should be able to get your money back too. So get off your butt and do something about it instead of complaining!

In any case, I'm glad to see that ALL of you are so perfect and have perfect credit, have never screwed up and are in Prime land. Whatever.........
