Just applied for a Banana Republic card (I buy so much stuff there, that it's worth having the card for the free shipping) but was denied. All three scores are in the mid-700's, with a good mix of cards and zero balances. Last (and only) derog was 5 years ago and is marked as paid. Has anyone had similar problems with the Gap/Old Navy/BR cards? Seems kind of silly to get an 11K card with USAA a few months ago, but then be denied for a simple store card Thanks.
No specific experience with them, except to say this might be a perfect situation where you can request reconsideration.
Some consumers have reported they were denied online, but their cards showed up in the mail. Maybe you can give them a phone call.
They're underwritten by GE Money Bank thus, who knows however, I would be willing to bet the reason for denial you receive is "couldn't verify identity of applicant." This usually occurs when your Equifax and Trans Union previous addresses do not coincide insofar as GEMB pulls both. They are very strange . . .
In addition to your asking for reconsideration from the GAP, you may also want to clear that account from your credit report(s). Many people have used the Nutcase letter to delete paid accounts from their reports.
Thanks for all the responses. I'll see what I get in the mail, then follow up with the GAP accordingly. To BellaRuss - the derog is actually a legit paid judgement, so I haven't had the best of luck removing it. It's paid, and hasn't hindered me for other things, so I'm not worrying too much about it.
It's the addresses I'm telling you. GEMB is notorious for this. If you really want a BR account, call up their corporate office and convey your problems. Asking GE Money Bank for reconsideration is a waste of time insofar as they do not control the actual stores for which they service accounts.
