Good Greif I feel like Exp and Equ are fighting me tooth and nail about even getting old Addresses removed. Any have some recent tips on how to get this accomplished with these 2 sorry bureaus? TransUnion removed them no problem. Thanks all!
First and most important thing is to make sure that there are no accounts actively reporting the address...
Good point Jam. Thanks! Will they hassle you if you have in fact resided at the address but it's an old address that you simply want removed?
Yes, theoretically, the section is a historical record of where you've lived, not just your 'current' address...
Hi jam237, I've just started this process (disputing addresses/phone) as well and seem to recall several years ago another really helpful forum that said that we shouldn't send identifying info to the CRA if requested since they could send that out to those impacted by the dispute. In doing so, you would be giving them more than 2 of the identifying pieces of info they need to verify you own an account they are trying to collect on: name, address, SSN, etc. Do you still feel that is a valid argument to not sending driver's license/SS card back to the CRA? I'm asking because that is what Equifax has asked me to do to support my address/phone disputes. I don't want to give them something that could be used against me later by a third party. TIA for any guidance!
I never provide any additional information, I personally take the approach, if you refuse to honor the dispute, I'll be more than happy to show you and your attorney's my driver's license, when you come to Federal Court to respond to my suit for refusing to honor a request for a dispute.
Thanks again, jam! I decided not to provide any info and have successfully gotten many old addresses/phone numbers/employers removed from both TU and EXP. I'm still waiting to hear from EQ so we'll see what shakes out without me providing the drivers license and ss card.
Is there a way to know which Credit agencies a credit card company will verify with before approving my credit card application?
I had a similar experience trying to get a couple of identity theft addresses removed from my credit reports. There are creditors who update your credit reports with the address and then there are other creditors who use what creditors update for their own records. I was able to get the identity theft creditors removed and the addresses they posted but I could not get legit creditors to remove the false addresses. It's a frustrating hassle. I wish there was a better way.
The only way would be to send a letter to the legit creditors. Saying that they are reporting false information, and disputing the address information that they are reporting with the CRAs. If they verify, file a suit for violating the FCRA for $1,000 per tradeline per CRA.
